Well, a week ago today we saw a new president installed in the oval
office. All week they've been installing the "new fangled" attachments,
but I have to say, it looks pretty much like most other presidents. Oh,
sure, the packaging says "New and Improved!", but I'm going to have to
check out the list of features a little more closely to see whether or
not anything actually changed, or if it's just the same equipment in a
different wrapper.
Doesn't it feel like this to you every time you buy a replacement
for something? New toothpaste, new and improved cleaning power,
improved flavor. Substitute the word "phone" for "president" above,
does the above statement take on any different meanings?
So, yes, it's been a week. I haven't really kept up with much on
the political side of the country. Although, even with my usual status
of "living under a rock" bits of news have gotten to me. I haven't
liked what I've heard. Of course, it's probably not the new president's
fault. He has advisors, so choices made for his cabinet can't be
entirely his fault. It just seems to me a little odd that picked as
Secretary of State was a person that vehemently campaigned against the
president, approved very slighted comments against him in that
campaign, and has designs on being president. It seems a little like...
what's the phrase... how do you say "pay-off"? Yes, it seems like the
new Secretary of State got the position as some sort of compensation.
The booby prize, as it were.
You know, for a president who campaigned so hard on Change, this
looks pretty much like politics as usual.
Now, I'm not saying that I'm
not giving him a chance. I'm going to sit back and try to be oblivious
like usual, as if he were an established president in complete control. I'm going to go about my life and try to be a good little spud, and let the president get on with the job at hand. I'm not going to complain. I promise. I'm giving the president a fair chance. I'll save any opinions or judgments
until one hundred days of the term have passed. Then I will, as all media will, make my feelings known about the direction of our government.
I have a guess that my opinion won't match the rest of the medias'...it never seems to. We'll see, won't we?
