Socially inept birds

05/03/2009

I was sort of asked out (on a date) by one of my coworkers tonight. He seems nice but I don't know him that well. Besides, I'm older than most of my coworkers...and I have no idea how old he is. Thus, I find myself in a quandary. I do not think of him in that manner either. I didn't really reply back when he "asked" me out. Haha, I pretended to be focused on the job I was doing at the time which, ironically, really does take a large amount of concentration. The conversation goes as such:

Him: So, are you seeing anyone?
Me (suddenly suspicious but trying to hide it): Why?
Him: Because I was going to ask you out...
Me: (silence) (then we both got busy with other jobs)

Haha. I'm such a smooth operator, right? To add to the awkwardness, I kept even busier than usual (and that is saying something because I am always on the move at work) so I could avoid him. I didn't know what to say to him. I was avoiding the confrontation more than I was avoiding him. Haha. I am such a socially inept person when it comes to dating/guys sometimes. Oh, who am I kidding? I am always socially inept in situations like that.

I don't know what to do about the situation now. I know I helped make it awkward, by the way. I appreciate the fact that a seemingly nice guy (who is not like most of the other guys at work, I hope) is interested in me. The last guy interested in me was kind of weird. I think I finally got my "stalker dude" off my back, by the way. It only took 3 years or so to do so. I was NOT subtle either--multiple times of brutal honesty was involved.
The only other guys who have asked me out was a new classmate (6th grade...he asked out every new girl...and I was not subtle with him, but it wasn't on purpose. Enough said. Haha.), a drunk guy (who later stood me up when I decided to give him a chance), and a guy who was trying to get to my then roommate (my college freshman year--he stood me up too). Thus, I don't have the strongest dating history. I have only gone on one date, and even then, I did not call it a "date" to the other person because it was "stalker dude" and I was being nice. I told him I'd hang out with him. Haha. I'm glad I did that actually.

I have to see this guy at work when we work together and I know that will be awkward. I have never had to deal with a coworker. I think most of the single guys at work know I am not interested in them...and there is a good reason for that. I will not go into that issue. Haha.

Oh, speaking of work, I heard a funny story about someone my main boss knows...on the local news. Apparently, some guy came into our store yesterday dressed as a police officer but the employee behind the front counter didn't buy his story about being an officer. So, she notified someone and the actual police were called in to investigate. The person in question was arrested for impersonating an officer. He told the police that he did it in order to impress one of the female employees that was there that day. Haha. How idiotic is that? Especially when you know the store manager knows who you are...
People make me laugh sometimes.

Alright, I'm out of here for now. I just wanted to share my "interesting" news with you. Haha.--Robyn

Also...a police officer stopped by my place around 3am today. Apparently, he was looking for some Ashley chick. I told him all I knew...which was nothing. Haha. See? I am not always socially inept.

OR SAY THAT YOU HAVE A POLICY NOT TO DATE COLLEAGUES, BECAUSE WORK RELATIONSHIPS ARE NOT A GOOD IDEA, BUT SAY YOU'D BE HAPPY TO GO OUT SOCIALLY WITH HIM, BECAUSE HE SEEMS LIKE A NICE GUY.

Haha, that IS awkward. I wonder what you'll do... and you know what? Now I'm interested in the story why the single guys at work know you're not interested in them. Hehe.
LOL that's crazy! Situations like that make me think I never want to go head over heels for someone. Who knows what love will make me do? Haha.

I hope you're having a nice weekend!
