Things just got bad...

11/11/2010

Not weighing in thanks to pizza, ice-cream, coke and lollies lol.

Ok, so...

The job my husband wanted to go for will only accept already permanent employees. So there goes that! And then.. after that... His boss terminated his contract! He has until the end of January. This shits us both.

It wasn't a personal firing. Apparently the government is 5 million dollars over budget. There are ALOT of people working in various offices across Australia who are about to lose their jobs. Unfortunately, if you're temp or on a contract.. you're the first to go.

His boss was really cut up about it. When my husband got home last night, he showed me a letter she 'accidently' sent to the entire office. It was her sympathy for him and how great of a loss it was being that the work he does is outstanding ect ect. It then goes on to say that when she had told him, they both cried OMG, I wish I could have been there to comfort him.
According to my husband, he started crying when she said "I know how hard this must be given that you just got married". Awwwww... He said she didn't want to do it. She was reluctant to and took her time telling him.

We're going to get through this. I'll make sure of that!

This actually CAN be a good thing. This is a REALLY good oppotunity for him to use his degree and get back into science research. His boss did give him a print out of a job (and I guess I can say it on here) with immigration. The position is permanent. He applied for it last night. If he's unsuccessful in gaining work in these next couple of months, I'm going to have to bail out of the course I'm suppose to be doing. We won't be able to afford it. So yesterday, I applied for a government job as well. It's a long process...

And on another bright note.. This means we can look for work outside of Sydney. I hate it here lol

Anyway. I will keep updated about this and let you know how he goes with the immigration job.

Later xx

omg! That stinks. When I was laid off my boss only gave me 10 days notice- and he only said he *might* have to cut one of us loose due to slow business, not that he definitely would. At least he got a bit of time to look for another placement. Good luck to you both! Everything will work out the way it should.

She also mentioned that he could possibly get in quite easily interstate in Canberra. This is where Australias parliament is based so living there is really expensive. It will be a last resort. I told him that if he doesn't get work by the end of January, to think of it as a brief holiday. He has excellent references thanks to where he's working now so he's confident that he can get another job quickly. And anything else he goes for now will be a higher income. I would LOVE to move interstate lol

That's very exciting! The jobs Shawn is going for now as well are higher paying. I believe they already made all the cuts at his job, but if we have to worry every six months it is not worth the stress!
