Okay! Day one down, and I would consider it having gone mildly successful.
The girls met me at my apartment early in the morning around 8, but I had been up since 5. Well, I hit my snooze button till 6, so technically I was awake but I really didn't want to be. My realtor wanted to take my picture for his Facebook page, so I had to dress up and be presentable. That, and we were going to closing directly afterward. Closing took about two hours because there were a couple mix-ups with the closing costs, but after two hours of signing papers we walked away with the keys. I felt bad in a way because the home belonged to a woman who had died, and her two daughters inherited her estate. We knew this the entire time we were going forward with this property, but it didn't really become personal until we met them yesterday. It must be hard to sell your dead parent's home because it's so much more than a house. I tried to be respectful. It is a beautiful home but needs some major updating, so as they were quietly inquiring about my plans for the home, I tried not to give them any clues that their mother's home would never look like their mother's home again.
As we are financially able, we are going to renovate the townhouse room by room. The townhouse was sold as an estate, so we have all of her old furniture which will be sold. Yesterday we began one of the basement rooms which will be Azlynn's room (Britt's daughter). The basement is paneling over drywall, so we had two options which was to either rip down the paneling and paint the drywall or to paint the paneling as is. For her room, we chose to keep the paneling and paint that. We have to go through and do a second coat today, and then it should be finished. Brittni's room currently is the bar room, and yesterday I began the process of tearing down the bar. Someone made it themselves very well actually with old wooden shingles over drywall, and a decorative stone top. It's actually beautifully rustic, but we need the room and cannot salvage it. I tore down quite a bit of it yesterday, but someone else is going to have to do the rest today because I've gotten to the drywall and its extremely dense. I'm working with a hammer and a crowbar, so I'm not exactly equipped for the job anymore.
I also loaded up my grandma's SUV yesterday and actually a good bit of my stuff in it. I unpacked all that I could, and today I'll be doing the same. The goal for today is to finish with the bar, move some of the small furniture in the townhouse that we plan on keeping to where we actually plan to use it, and hopefully move as much of the little stuff as we can before tomorrow. If we can begin moving big furniture today, that's even better.
I'm a little irritated with Britt because she didn't really help at all yesterday. Granted, she worked all night so she was exhausted and sleep deprived all day long. She didn't do much of anything- she helped with the bar a little but mostly sat back and supervised until she finally went to sleep yesterday night. That, and she was fighting with her husband because he was supposed to come and help but basically chose not to. I understand that there isn't much we can do with her room in particular because until that bar comes down, we can't do anything. We can't do too much in her daughter's room either because until the paint is completely finished and dry, we won't be able to hang her curtains or move her bed and toys in. I get that. However, we still could have moved some of the furniture and continued to move little things yesterday. Hopefully today after she has gotten some sleep, she'll be better off and we will be able to accomplish a lot.
So, I guess I'm going to get myself together and start the process again today. All I have is a little 4 door stratus, but I'm going to load it with as much as possible and keep on going alone. |
