Nexxus - Shampoo, conditioner, reconstructive serum, and leave - in conditioner!
A good definition of
conditioner: "Hair conditioner is different than cream rinse (often referred to as creme rinse). A cream rinse is simply a detangler and, as its name implies, has a thinner consistency than conditioner. Hair conditioner is a thicker substance which actually repairs the follicles of the hair itself."
I've used a LOT of hair products in my day. I am very pro [hair] conditioner, as I'm sure many of you guys are. Even at a young age I learned quickly that conditioner makes your hair feel soft. As I got older, I became aware that softness = healthiness and healthiness = pretty!
Most shampoos will dry out your hair, if used alone, so conditioner is a god send when it comes to styling dry hair. Especially mine.
When looking for a conditioner, creamier is usually better.
Now onto the products [and incredibly long reviews...if you get bored but are still interested after two paragraphs, feel free to skip to the end

].
Nexxus
My main review was going to be soley on
Emergencee, but the box (of $13.99 product) suggested using a specific shampoo and conditioner;
Therappe "luxurious moisturizing" shampoo and
Humectress "ultimate moisturizing" conditioner. I also purchased
Humectress Luxe "ultimate moisturizing" leave-in spray. This review is based on one use, I will do a follow up in 2 weeks [the bottle suggests using it once every two weeks].
Therappe "luxurious moisturizing" shampoo
♥♥♥ 3/5 :
Clicky Clicky to buy me! $7.99
The shampoo is thick and pearly white with a light, feminine, coconut scent. I personally really liked this shampoo. It's very similar to what ever my salon uses, so I can definitely understand why it's referred to as "Salon Hair Care"/salon quality. It was a little pricey for only 13.5 fl. Oz. at $7.99 but was actually the cheapest of all the Nexxus products I bought today [I got them all at Harmon's Beauty Supply]. The shampoo didn't wow me as much I was hoping it would,
but the fact that it seems like I could almost
feel my hair becoming healthier made me happy. It didn't feel like it was coating my hair like Pantene tends to or removing every last bit of oil from my hair like some of my organic [specifically Organix] shampoos do. I would recommend using this shampoo, especially in conjunction with next three Nexxus'. Especially for hair very much in need of moisture.
FEATURING!!!...
Emergencee "strengthening polymeric reconstructor"
♥♥♥♥♥ 4/5:
Clicky Clicky to buy me! $13.99
The bottle reads:
""[Emergencee by Nexxus] is unsurpassed in repairing and strengthening hopelessly damaged hair and stopping hair breakage. This exceptional formulation, containing a renewing blend of Proteins, Collagen, and Elastin, coats the cuticle to structurally reinforce hair and restore integrity. Use once every two weeks to fortify hair that has been damaged by chemical treatments and thermal styling. Each treatment will dramatically improve hair's health, condition, and shine."
Directions:
"Shampoo with Nexxus Shampoo for your hair type. Apply an ample amount of Emergencee to completely cover the hair. Work through. Cover hair with plastic cap. Leave in for 2-3 minutes with or without heat. Rinse with lukewarm water. Shampoo with Therappe® Luxury Moisturizing Shampoo and follow with Humectress® Ultimate Moisturizing Conditioner to maintain moisture balance. Proceed with styling. Emergencee is an excellent pre-treatment for delicate hair prior to all chemical services."
At first, I was a little sceptical of Emergencee, which of course, made me sceptical of the brand in general. I've heard nothing but great things about Nexxus but never actually used it. Even my very masculine and cosmetically uninterested friend, KB and equally as masculine and cosmetically retarded boyfriend, both were raving about the quality of Nexxus....which was more than shocking, as I'm sure you could imagine. I may or may not change my "rating", but a few hours after using Emergencee, I'm impressed. The quality of my hair has greatly improved, I just hope it isn't one of those hair miracle illusions that wash off the next morning. When I first washed my hair, using the above shampoo, the ends of my recently dyed hair were actually breaking off into my hands. My palms were covered in bits of broken, black, hair. After ten minutes [bottle says 2-3, but I'm an overachiever

] of letting my hair marinate in the shampoo-like serum, I rinsed in luke-warm water, as directed and was actually shocked. My hair didn't feel exactly soft, but stronger, and there was only two little pieces of broken hair. The description on the bottle/box says it's for "hopelessly damaged hair and stopping hair breakage", and it couldn't be more true. This is not, I repeat, NOT a conditioner. It is a RECONSTRUCTOR. That is really the perfect word for it, too. So far this is a major staple in my hair care collection. It had transformed my dull, extremely dry, straw-like mop into smooth, soft, shiny, HEALTHY! hair. I also want to stress that if you are going to use this, to follow the directions as closely as possible. I'm not saying you need to go off and buy every single product the bottle recommends, subsitutions can be made, but don't expect it to work well if you're applying it to your hair, then not following up with conditioner.
Now the next two "reviews" are going to be made a bit shorter unless anyone has any questions or would like a longer description. I know most people on the internetz tend of have a short attention span ;] so I don't wanna bore the $h!t outta you guys! I'm actually going to put the two together as they are quite similar from what I can tell.

The conditioner/s were very similar to the shampoo, only a bit better. I always am excited to try conditioners when they say to leave it on for a few minutes vs. rinsing out immediately. This tells me that the company actually knows what they need in their conditioner and that conditioner takes at least a few minutes to absorb. Nexxus is one of those companies that know what they're talking about; directions for the wash-out conditioner says to leave in for 3 minutes [then rinse. duh.]. It's very creamy, rich and thick with a less coco-nutty smell than the shampoo, almost sweet, but definitely not sickly. It smells
sexy to me ;] .
I personally perfer and recommend lotion/cream type leave-in conditioners for thick/curly/coarse hair. Spray in conditioners are convienent but are more suited for thin, straight hair. While the Nexxus is in spray form, I don't really have any complaints other than...well... I wish it was in cream form. It's very much like the wash-out conditioner, in a spray. From the the scent to how it makes your hair feel [at least from what I can tell after one use]. One thing I did notice though is what happens when you use it on dry hair; it makes it feel stiff, as if you were spraying on a bit of hairspray or using mousse. It says to use on damp, towel dried hair and I definitely would not use it on dry hair unless you're planning on styling with it.
In conclusion...
Nexxus, while a bit overpriced, is a very impressive brand. The products I've used from them have made me a true Nexxus lover, after ONE use. The product,
Emergencee which I mainly was going to review, was just about everything I expected and a bit more. I needed a make-over for the quality of my hair and Nexxus gave that to me for only $13.99. While it seems a bit expensive at first, if you really think about the money you'd be spending in a salon, it doesn't even begin to compare. You don't NEED to buy the shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in...but if you can afford it...I would! If you can't, than definitely do what ever you can to find Emergencee! For anyone with hair that's about to snap off at the roots or an unbrushable mess...it's worth it.
