需要吃包子,跟朋友吃火锅Excitement excitement ^^ Last night my phone decided to stop working, my mother tried calling me and got a Chinese rejection message, which, you know, is scary for a woman of her generation - I figured I'd run out of credit *naturally* but turns out I've still got 29 kuai on the thing... Nannniiii, either way it's working again now and Sabrina wrote out what to say in a place of top-up -> Culture Point #1
Actually walked home yesterday as well ^^ Oh yeaaaaah - I failed to cross the road though IT's a BIG ROAD! Anyway, Kelly eventually found me and walked me home... even with a Chinese person, though, we were still nearly crushed by bikes and stalked by taxis - apparently white people don't tend to walk around here...
I decided to go out last night for food, because the hotel now stresses me to the point of a Hulk moment. Non of the staff seem to be quite sure what they're doing, so they spend an hour argueing over how to open a can with one hand because, as the guest, you most definitely can't open it yourself *spazms*ANYWAY!
I ended up at a Hot pot 火锅 restaurant, bad move, I soon realised that hot pot is a very social meal, so this single girl was a little weird. Also I had no idea what to do. I initially ordered just the broth, because the waiter didn't know how to explain to me I needed other stuff as well, then another waitress came and just told me in Chinese ... AND I UNDERSTOOD *culture dance* Either way I still didn't know how to add ingredients properly, and the teenager serving was grinning evilly as he delivered a stack of pork flesh TRAUMA. At the end of the meal I just threw everything in the pot so it would look like I'd eaten something (and the broth generally hid everything ^^) - I also ended up having a conversation with the waitress, it was ok as well *^^* HOWEVER. Failure in the sense that, I've never learnt the word for bill, I've been watching Peter order for a few days and guessed at the word, however with my panicky attempts at speaking the sentence came out as ... requesting permission to buy a man's private region... (买
屌, the waitress interpreted this as a type of sauce for the hot pot (Maizhang?? I think) ... I then garbled something about jsut wanting to give her money and leave *head-desk* She got the idea though and apparently the word is Maidan (买单. *head-desk*
Meh, you live and learn *cackles* After work (finishes in 10 minutes *bounce*) Sabrina's going to show me the restaurant near the hotel that does the famous Tianjin 包子 ^^ I But this Is China!! *rawrs* The land of teh carbohydrate! And I do so love those carbohydrates *nom* Also, it's China, the rice and noodles are probably teh safest edible -> Have also discovered the dumpling section of the breakfast table... so that's more for the tummy tyre~ *carbohydrate feast-age*
