saying goodbye

10/23/2010

11:35 am

mood: okay

So this yesterday morning at ten o'clock my Mom was at my house with her dog in her car. She forgot how to get to the Humane Society, so I showed her. She surrendered her dog, it was sad. His name is Sparky, he's part American bulldog and part hunting dog, he's very sweet and gets along great with children and cats. He also weighs about fifty pounds and is super hyper, nothing calms him down at all. He's neutered and has all of his shots. He's beautiful brown and white and it looks like he's wearing eyeliner around his buttery brown eyes.

My Mom has claw marks going down the left side of her face, I hope it doesn't scar. She was taking a nap in her bed and I guess she left a door open because he jumped on her head while she was sleeping. He meant no harm, but harm was done. Also I've seen him run full force at her and jump and throw himself at her and actually knock her to the ground, a few times when that's happened I thought I was going to have to take her to the Emergency room because she banged her head really hard on steps and pavement.

He's just too much for her to handle, also when someone comes to visit her he jumps on their cars and scratches the paint all up and the whole time the person is trying to talk to her she is focusing on the dog trying to control him, which doesn't work. She tried putting him in the house but he destroys everything, no lie. He also leaves her gifts of poop and pee and she tried for months to housebreak him.

Once again he means no harm, he's very sweet and loving and loves to be around people and cats. But he's way too hyper and my Mom couldn't control him at all, so she had to say goodbye.

Awww I know how hard that must be for your mom to surrender him, but at the same time, a dog that cannot learn to be controlled better than that would cause her a lot of grief, unintentional or not. Sounds like he needs a very firm hand in training him to get him on the right track!
