Massive Labor Day Weekend Flea Market

09/02/2011

--- Whoa ---

Every labor day weekend and memorial day weekend there is a flea market in my little town. The memorial day one is smaller but over the last few years has gradually gotten larger. The labor day flea market is insanely huge with over 500,000 people estimated in attendance last year. Whoa. My job is at one end of the road from it, and a lot of people start from one side and walk all the way to Hardees, eat or drink or just rest and then they walk down the other side of the road. People rent out their yards and there are two big fields where people can set up. And those who aren't making money by renting their yards to vendors are making money by charging $5 dollars a day per car and $10 a day per RV/Large vehicle. Tonight wasn't nearly as busy as tomorrow and the next day will. Most of our early morning and late night business is from vendors before they open up and after they shut down. During the day though we get massive amounts of orders for drinks and milkshakes. We hand dip all our shakes so our hands tend to get really tired by the time its all over. Tonight we were busy is vendors coming in, setting up and then coming to eat. A lot of these people are fucking rude as hell and totally high and mighty, just because they are here, in our town selling their junk they think they can treat us like shit. It aggravates a lot of us, I didn't see much of it today but I'm sure I'll see a lot of it tomorrow and Saturday. Luckily I'm only working Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I do have 12 hours shifts Friday and Saturday so I'm not sure how happy I will be by the end of the day, I'm sure I'll be taking advil and praying for the strength to get through it. I did a lot of staging stuff for tomorrow morning in hopes they'll have the same courtesy and help us out for night shift. I doubt it but its worth a shot.

I did get upset today. We sell chocolate chip cookies, they come pre-portioned in a box kept in a freezer so all we have to do is stick them on the pans and go on. We're out of cookies. I searched that freezer 3 times and couldn't find any, so I called the store in the next town to see if they had any we could have. They have 3 extra cases so that was fine, they didn't mind sharing. Well I called my manager because we're not allowed to go get anything, its an insurance issue. I'm trying to explain all this to him and he's getting short and hateful with me so finally I hung up without getting my point across. So I left him a note on the desk that told him what was going on and that if he hadn't gotten so pissy with me I'd have been able to get my point across. I just wanted him to swing by and get the box of cookies in the morning since obviously we don't have any. But it is what it is. Fuck him.

Things are fine here at home. I'm feeling a bit better after having a good cry over no one caring and then telling myself to suck it up cause I'm such a baby. I just get tired of the lack of encouragement. I made the comment that working for the Irs was something I was really looking into as I get farther into my degree. That I think it would be awesome to get that kind of job and I was researching it. Well my friend's are all oh so you're gonna be the fucking tax police? And just saying I shouldn't do it or can't do it for one reason or another. It made me mad, I'm supportive, even when my alcoholic best friend got a job as a bartender which I thought was dumb as hell I didn't stop being his friend. They're making it sound like it I ever had a job like that they'd hate me for life. So I told them to go ahead and hate me, at least it would give them something to do besides bitch about how they never have any money and are tired of this and that.

Thanks everyone who actually care.
