It's me - Steve! I've started a new website called PCKB.net, that's personal computer knowledge base. I am going to stuff it full of useful content, but I need your help. If you have a problem that you can't solve, or just something you're curious about, please send me a message.

That way, I can write about it here and copy the post to PCKB.net.

OH YES, YO. I HAVE A COMPUTER QUESTION. LIKE I HAVE BROADBAND - NOT WIRELESS, BUT A WIRE THAT GOES INTO MY COMPUTER. IF I TAKE IT OUT AND PUT IT INTO ANOTHER COMPUTER IT WON'T WORK ON THAT COMPUTER. IT WILL ONLY WORK WITH ONE COMPUTER - UNLESS I TOTALLY FIDDLE WITH THE SETTINGS OF THE OTHER COMPUTER. IF I FIDDLE WITH THE SETTINGS, IT FINALLY WORKS, BUT THEN IT WON'T WORK IF I PUT IT BACK INTO MY FIRST COMPUTER. SO I HAVE TO FIDDLE WITH THE SETTINGS OF MY FIRST COMPUTER. IT'S ALL VERY FIDDLY! HOW DO I FIX IT?

So it does! What does the cable plug in to on the other end? Does the device have a name?

Is it a cable modem? If so, you may need to restart the device when you plug it into a new computer.

YES, YO - CABLE MODEM, I THINK.

I TOTALLY HAVE A NEW COMPUTER PROBLEM. MY LAPTOP WAS BEING VERY SLOW INDEED TO START UP, SO I WENT TO 'RUN' AND TYPED IN 'MSCONFIG' AND I UNCHECKED LOTS OF DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WERE STARTING AT STARTUP.

AND NOW IT'S TOTALLY FASTER.

BUT...

MY POOR KEYBOARD HAS TURNED AMERICAN ON ME. HOW DO I MAKE IT BRITISH AGAIN? I WANT THE POUND SIGN ON TOP OF THE THREE, YO! LIKE I NOW HAVE NO WAY OF MAKING A POUND SIGN! ONLY A DOLLAR!
