Well jeez. I can only imagine that setting has something to do with...stalkers? Apparently there's an option to "block potential stalkers". There is no way that feature came about without something happening to warrant it.

It has to do with harassment from other members.

One member will block another member because of a certain thing, and that blocked member might make a new diary to continue viewing the person who blocked them.

Or else, someone may have a person in their personal life [such as my boyfriend at the time] make a new diary, just to eavesdrop and read what is going on, and they diary owner doesn't like it.

If you hit that button, it blocks anyone who has a diary from the same IP address as the original person on your block list, so they can't view even if they make a new diary.

The new diarist's setting will go away after you mingle and spend some time on the site. It's a precaution, maybe, towards spammers and such.

Btw, if you do want to chat back, inbox me/send a message or click reply next to my username, as I have both setting active.

Ah yes, it works like this.

American Bloopers sometimes block you if you use the word 'fat', because apparently in some parts of America this is an offensive word akin to using the n-word for black people, whereas in the UK it is simply a descriptive term to describe someone's size. If people block you, and you have selected the 'Deny access to users if I cannot access their diary' option, then they can no longer see your diary either - it's like a mutual blocking. But this causes them great distress, because they want to keep seeing you use the word 'fat', so that they can keep getting offended. (Bloopers adore getting offended.) So then they create a new diary, pretending to be a new person, just so they can keep viewing you.

This is rather naughty - they have created a diary purely to 'stalk' you, when they aren't really supposed to be able to view your diary. So if you have the 'Block potential stalkers' option selected, they can't view you with their new diary. Of course, once they've written several entries and commented a few diaries, then they will be able to view you - they have to be really dedicated stalkers to be bothered to do that.

All crystal clear now, isn't it. I can't work out if you are really a new Blooper, or an old one who's bored and trying to cause a bit of dramaz.
