Children need major displine

01/18/2013

I'm currently wondering if this child deserve to have a new computer charger for the laptop for all the disrespect he's been giving me and his mother I'm tired that he has this entitlement for things and whining and sniveling for things he does it all the time and everyone caves in for the lil fucker but I won't cause I feel like he needs to have some respect and couristy towards other people and today he calls my phone demanding me to buy a new charger for the laptop and I said maybe it would have to depend on the money situation and added that he hasn't done his homework since mid-sept and I feel like he don't give a care bout anything

I don't know you - I'm totally a random commenter here.. but I have an 11 yr old daughter who, up until recently, had been the most disrespectful, rude, ungrateful, eye rolling, whiny, etc, etc, etc. kid EVER. My Husband and I were at our WITS end.

We started trying to involve her more in family activities (like board games, dinner conversation, etc) and we found that she'd been being bullied by some girl at school. She's been having a lot of emotional issues because of it. Once we started to really dive into it, we realized that's part of what was happening.

The other thing, we realized, is that our child was addicted to technology. By cutting out internet usage completely, and by FORCING her to get off the computer, and interact with her peers, etc. her attitude actually improved 10 fold.

In addition to the above changes, we started making her EARN things she wanted. She wants to go skating with her friends? Ok. Well, it costs $6.50 just to get in the door and skate, and another $5 in snacks - so she has to do extra chores to earn her money. Money can be lost/taken away for disrespect, attitude, making messes that I have to clean up, etc.

I don't know if this is the case with your son or if our technique will help. I don't even know your son's age. But, I do know what it's like to deal with a child who's going *crazy* emotionally and you're sitting here feeling like there's no end in sight. Hang in there.
