my hospital experience

10/27/2009

Should have written this one before really, oh well.
I went in with sarah at about 7 in the morning friday and entered the waiting room. no information anywhere about the procedure or what happen....all i get given is a menu for friday's dinner!. o...k. (i chose lasagna) then was just waiting......and waiting....about 8 sarah had to go to a worky meeting thing so i just stayed there and waited.....and waited....then about 10 a nurse called my name, took my obs and stuff, thn back to the waiting room. sigh
Then a doctor came and called my name, he took me to a small room and explained what would happen, they would cut a large hole and thread the tendon through then reposition it.
He then explained the risks, that after the cast is taken off there is a chance of the tendon coming straight off and a chance my foot will just snap (cause they had to drill into the bone)....nice.
about an hour later the nurse came again and asked me to bring my stuff.
OH FUCK HERE I GO!!!
she asked me to get changed and to put a gown on and then what seemed the longest walk of my life! the walk from waiting room to anesthetist room 3.
I popped myself on the bed and was attached to an ecg machine (ekg for you yanks) and then a lovely doctor came in to put my cannula in my hand, unfortunately she wasnt brill at this and it took 2 attempts, no biggie.
she then got a massive syringe with clear liquid in and injected my cannula. in her words "your really gonna enjoy this bit" she then injected me with another clear liquid and just smiled and asked if i was sleepy yet? "nope" was my reply. I felt nothing, after a few minutes she asked again, "nope" i was actually worried at this point i would have to be awake.
She then injected me with a milky looking liquid (prob same stuff that mr jackson died using) and instantly i felt sleep. and then i was gone
I woke up in recovery a few hours later and felt like poo. i was on xygen still as my sats were quite low. I felt sick and my foot felt really heavy, I already had the cast on and it felt strange.
It hurt like hell as well, I asked for painkillers and was given morphine and then when that didnt work , fentanyl, neither of which did shit for the pain, i was then given tramadol which worked wonders, i felt instantly better. apart from the fact the nurses kept eating cadburys mini olls next to me and i couldnt have one....grrrr.

If anyone cares I will post the conclusion of what happened on my next post, it involves a few horrors including having to listen to a man poo next to me
