Now that I'm calmer...

01/31/2014

So I've talked to a few people (Thanks for the phone call Sandy!!!) and sat down and did some thinking and calmed myself down.

I think the big thing is that I know I'm not good at tracking and doing things that require every day repetition...I can't even successfully take my vitamins every day without missing at least once or twice a week, or more.  And journaling...I have tried so many times to do it every day, even just a few little words, and it lasts a few days and then I miss a whole bunch, and get discouraged, etc.

But maybe this time it will be different, since this is such a big issue, and I know how important it is for me to do this; not only for me but for my family - I don't want to die and leave them or have something happen and they would have to take care of me for a long time, etc.  Plus I need to be a good example to my son so that he can make good choices for his life and so that he hopefully won't have these same issues when he is an adult.

That being said, I logged back into SparkPeople and updated my info, re-set my goals, and logged the food that I've eaten so far today.  It's pretty sad when I look at it and see how far out of whack my nutrition is.  Not that it's so terrible, but I've only had 2 glasses of water today, as the ones for my shakes don't count, and besides the banana this morning, I haven't had any other fruits or veggies.  I'm not really good at meal planning, but looks like I really need to spend some time planning some easy, but balanced meals out, with some alternates in case I need to boost in one area or another.

Sandy mentioned that she is making shakes and also juicing....which reminds me that I have a juicer too, but I'm not sure I would be able to use it effectively, since Jon would be sleeping during the time I would need it, however, I might take it over to mom's and use it over there, since Ouma probably wouldn't mind the noise. Would just have to find a place to store it out of their way, but it's a thought, and juicing is a great way to get fruits and veggies.

As for exercise, it's not really safe to walk on our road, the cars and trucks go by so fast and there is no side for most of the way.  Mom's treadmill doesn't work, but Jon's stationary bike does, so although it's not walking, at least it will be some exercise and it's right under the porch here, I just have to clear a bunch of boxes and stuff away in order to get it ready to use, and clean up the spider webs...yuck.  Hopefully it won't be too loud to use because it's on the wall where the head of Jon's bed is and I would hate to wake him up while using it...may have to see about re-locating is to the lower area if it is too noisy.

Have a journal started to track my vitals and food/water...first big task...must get a scale that works, one that actually goes over 300 so we don't have to try and estimate.

Have referrals for ENT and for a sleep study so they can assess my severe congestion and my sleep apnea.  She also prescribed me an inhaler so I can deal with my asthma and be able to exercise more.  Will have a physical and fasting labs done in a few weeks to discover anything else that might be going on.

If it's the same juicer you got me, it's pretty useless for juicing. You get barely anything out of anything. You'd be better off using the food processor part and making green smoothies with it. And if you really wanted juice instead of smoothie consistency, you could get a nut milk bag and strain out the pulp.

It is, but I've never used it before, so it's good to know that it may not work. I may just stick to making shakes then, since I love those too.

Oh, and we have a digital scale that goes up to at least 320. We got it at Wal-Mart.

i found that spark people really worked for me. it took a little bit of effort to get into the habit of logging things, but once i'd done it for a week or 2, it just became my routine. i'm also on my smartphone constantly, so once i started using their app (i loved that i could scan my food containers so i didn't have to search them) it was even easier than logging in online.
if spark people doesn't work for you tho, something will. just keep looking till you find it. you can do it.

thanks, it took me a while to remember all the stuff yesterday but after a few hours I think I got it, I'm hoping it gets easier and that I'll get into the habit
