THE THINGS I CAN'T CONTROL

Spread love on the toast of life

03/19/2014

So I found a place called Community Resource Center. I think this place is my salvation. They might be able to help me with my electric bill! I find out more today, but I am SO excited! Nothing like being in your own house again! I love the people that we are staying with, but I feel like I have worn out my welcome. Even though they insist that I haven't. The center is all volunteers, so I thought if they can help me, I would love to get involved in the program to help other people. They have a food pantry and a few other programs that help people. I am going to ask them about the man I met about 2 months ago. My husband and I were stopping at Wal-Mart to get a few things when we saw an old man with a "help a veteran" sign standing in the cold. We stopped at Wawa and got him some hot soup and bread, then I gave him my coat. He told us his name was Allen Baul and that he was a 2 time veteran with pins in his leg. Nicest guy you could ever meet. He lost his SSI benefits because the state lost his paperwork. (Actually, it happens ALL the time, they also lost MY paperwork and one point) I would love to help him out in a much bigger way than just a coat and soup. He needs a warm place to sleep and a steady supply of food. I found out a short time after that, that there is a "tent city" of sorts right out in the woods where many homeless people stay! I have lived here most of my life and I never knew that! I need to get involved in helping these people!! After I get my electric back and move back home, I will try to get involved somehow. I know my situation is rough, but not nearly as bad as being cold and hungry. Also, there is a huge heroin epidemic here. I don't understand it, but then again I have never tried anything like that so I will never truly understand what that is like. I wished there was more I could do about that. Even some of the girls I work with are on it. It's just gross if you ask me. They have kids! It's hard for me to see these people hurting and not having anything that can help them. *sigh* I have to focus on one problem at a time, I guess.
