M called me a geek tonight. We had a laugh about the difference between geek and nerd. Thats the problem with me. I am a geek but I dont look like one. Even when I wear my glasses, I dont look incredibly geeky. Just "pretty girl with glasses." When people judge me by how I look, they don't see the real me. The massive nerd inside. The girl who loves to watch programmes on archaeology with her Dad. Who listens to classical music. Who writes crap poetry that only makes sense to her. A girl who gets enjoyment from researching the lives of dead people who have done spectacular things hundreds of years ago. The girl who loves words, root meanings and foreign languages. Who lays on the grass at midnight and stares at the Milky Way in awe. The girl who reckons she could invent a new language. Who will drop everything to read a poem you recommend to her. The one who is in love with Maria Callas. The girl who thinks Madame Butterfly is the most wonderful story in the world. Who spams dungeons on WoW until she gets the drop she wants. The girl with a fire in her belly and a raging hunger for knowledge. Who is still afraid of the dark but no longer cares. Who hears her life in music and lyrics. Who likes it when her fingers are covered in paint and clothes stained with glue. Who doesn't much care for expensive gifts but thinks the most romantic thing in the world would be to have a song/poem written about her.
Someday, some fool will love me for it.
