After the fourth or fifth Slytherin student slipped in one of the various puddles within the common room, Professor Snape arrived to survey the situation. Upon entering the room he spotted Harlequin perched, seemingly impossibly, upon one of the shelves, an internal groan stretched through him.
“I came to see if something was wrong with the globe between the common room and the lake,” he began, “Suddenly I am struck with the thought I should inquire with you Miss LaCroix, as to why the Slytherin Common room is full of puddles of water.”
“Did you know,” she returned, completely unphased by the man’s tone, “that the Glacius spell apparently has limitations? Or, some foolish sod decided to reverse the charm. Which,” she continued, “means that I am not really responsible for this.”
A heavy sigh escaped the Head of Slytherin House, “That does not explain why there are puddles…”
“They weren’t,” Hel interrupted, “not to begin with anyway. They were snowmen. Little ones.” Holding up here hands, still perched precariously on the shelf, she indicated a height of about 30 centimeters. “Jem and I thought…”
Snape held up a hand, “say no more.” It wasn’t acceptance, but not wanting to hear what else may be getting ready to follow. “When the house elves get here to clean up, just make sure they get all the puddles.”
“Yes sir,” Hel replied with a smile, then flipped down from the shelf, effortlessly avoiding one of the nearby puddles.
“As if I don’t have enough to deal with,” Snape muttered under his breath as he turned and stalked out of the common room.
“You had to mention me?” Jem stepped out from the doorway to the dorm rooms.
“It was a strategic move,” Hel returned, “anytime I start a sentence with ‘Jem and I’ Professor Snape usually looks for the quickest escape route.” The witch grinned, holding her hand out to help guide the other through the puddles. “Now,” Hel began once more, “as the house elves will take care of this, and there is the potential threat of boredom here. I say we go see how hard it is to sneak onto the Durmstrang ship.” |
