12/29/2013

no idea when i last wrote, but obviously it was before christmas. we had a lovely christmas eve and day at my mother's. i was spoiled rotten, as always. 2013 was the christmas of the scarf, apparently, and i came home with 5 of them. my brother's girlfriend crocheted one of them, and it is the perfect colour for me. love.
boxing day was the day that sophie came home! my parents took me to pick her up, and good lord is she a sweetheart. she's got these long lanky legs, and she's smart as hell. too smart, sometimes. i've been doing my best to start things right with her, being the alpha dog and all of that. it's going pretty well, i think, even if i do get anxious or frustrated at times. housebreaking is going really well, once she figured out what we wanted her to do out there. it's tough because it's really cold out, so she doesn't want to be outside, so bathroom breaks are about the extent of it. i can't say i blame her, but i do want to get her walking on a leash, both for mental and physical stimulation. i can tell that this little monkey is going to need to be worn out/challenged so as not to get herself into trouble with pent up energy.
it's her 4th day with us, and *knock wood* we've had no accidents today. she only had one yesterday, and it was my fault for not paying close enough attention. the nice thing about being unemployed is that i can be home with her almost all day, and take her out as often as possible. i've started a diary of sorts, just to note when she went out, what she did, and also when she ate. a lot of information about puppies says that they often need to go right after eating, but that doesn't seem to be the case with her.
she's been sleeping in her crate at night, and doing pretty well with it. the crating/sleeping is what makes me anxious, i think. i'm getting up with her about 3 times/night right now, and she pees each time, so it's not like she's just being a dick about getting up, but that means that i'm not getting a very restful sleep. i can hear all the mamas saying "just wait till you have a real baby", and i appreciate that, i really do, but at least when my real baby wakes up, i can stay inside (naked if i want!) rather than dressing and heading out into -20C.
today she learned how to go up stairs, which i'm not sure i love, but was bound to happen. she also learned to sit. i don't mean to be a braggypants, but considering my mom's stupid dog took like 4 months to take on their stairs, and my friend's puppy took forever learning basic commands, i'm feeling pretty smug. sophie even did "stay" and "come" once, but i think that was a coincidence. i'm going to keep working with her.
okay, now for some pictures, because what proud mama doesn't do that?

[kisses in the car on the way home]

[look at those lanky legs! she's got some growing to do]

there's also video that i can't seem to link to... if you follow/find me on instagram (ange_spange) you'll see it.

Such a cute little puppy! She's going to be big. The first couple months with a puppy are tough, I was up a lot with mine in the middle of the night too. Just how it goes.

I think it's great that you get to be home with her and get her properly trained. She's an absolute doll!

I ask myself the same thing. How did they not realize there was a TOASTER in that first box and not a bra?! Then they send me one that is clearly WAY too big. I wrote in their email that whoever does their packaging for items shipping out needs to be fired.

RIGHT? I mean... it can only get easier now though, yes?
