Because they're all something that people know exist already, and not something people (mainly children) need to see on TV.

I agree with Brooke-people KNOW that abortion are available. They know the clinics exist. What else should we do? Go with them and hold their hand? I think its a waste of money. If you decide to abort-thats your decision. I wouldn't like it pushed into the faces of me and my family while we're trying to watch television.

A waste of money? lol How would it be a waste of money? For who? The clinics who would be advertising? Advertising brings more profit, usually... it would probably not be a waste of money for them, it would probably increase business for the clinic.

I have to agree. I'm pro-choice & all that but I don't want to be watching tv with my 6 yr old sister & have her start asking what an abortion is. Granted I don't know if they are going to do that in the U.S. but we're already having enough trouble with her asking what pads & tampons are for.

People know they can get abortions & where. If they don't know exactly what street or how to get there its called Google, Yahoo! Map, or Mapquest. Simple & easy. TV adds is just taking a step too far.

Haha I remember asking my mom about tampons and she was like 'Ahhh girls need them when they're older.' And I was satisfied with that answer!

err, I'm not sure I agree with that statement... I am a girl and I wouldn't know where to go for an abortion. Lets assume I'm an underage pregnant teenager: I'm not going to want to go to my family doctor, so who do I turn to? I'm also unlikely to be wanting to google this on the family computer... I think the point of this possible advertising of abortions is to make it easier for teenagers to find help if they need it.

Thats a good point. But they also put ads in the phone book. *shrugs* I just personally don't want them on TV because of my sister.

I agree with this, yo! Like if I were to get preggers (highly unlikely without a man, but you never know!) and if I were to want an abortion, I really have no idea about local abortion clinics or anything. It would be jolly handy if information were advertised on TV. In theory, a pregnant teen could research and find out where to get help, but I imagine a pregnant teen might be feeling rather overwhelmed and panicked and not necessarily thinking logically. To have some basic information passed on through TV would be so reassuring.

I don't think we have abortion clinics in this country. I realised this the other day when I was thinking about this thread. Like, not in the same way the U.S have anyway. It's not a commericialised kind of thing, you know?

AH - THEN I DON'T FEEL QUITE SO IGNORANT! I WAS TOTALLY WONDERING WHERE THE ABORTION CLINICS IN MY CITY MIGHT BE HIDING AND WHY I'D NEVER HEARD OF THEM! ALL THESE 'EVERYONE KNOWS WHERE ABORTION CLINICS ARE' COMMENTS WERE MAKING ME FEEL QUITE CLUELESS! ;D

The private health care sector has them, but like obviously (or perhaps not obviously), the NHS aren't running abortion clinics... you'd just go to hospital or family clinic or wherever.

err, my point is (I've hidden it very well), that they aren't prolific... I think you'd have to go into one of the major cities to find one.

YES, YO - THAT IS WHAT I'D ASSUMED. YOU GO TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR, YO. I'VE NEVER HEARD OF ABORTION CLINICS APART FROM ON AMERICAN TV, WHERE ALL THE ANTI-ABORTION PEOPLE COME ALONG WITH THEIR PROTESTS AND GUNS AND SHOOT EVERYONE! THAT WAS QUITE AN ENTERTAINING MOVIE, YO - WITH THE GUY FROM 'SCREAM' IN IT.

??? It sounds like the film Dogma, apart from the reference to the guy from "Scream", since Dogma had Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

NO, YO - IT HAD ONE OF THE SCREAM MURDERERS IN IT. I TOTALLY RECOGNISED HIM, EVEN THOUGH I DON'T NORMALLY RECOGNISE FACES, BECAUSE HE CAN DO A HARDCORE HUMOROUS PSYCHO KILLER FACE! I HAVE NOW LOOKED IT UP TO FIND IT. THIS GUY. AND THIS MOVIE.

REALLY, YO? GOSH, SHE USED TO BE ALWAYS STRUTTING HER STUFF IN FILMS. YOU SHOULD SEE 'MASK' - THAT WAS JOLLY GOOD. AND 'TEA WITH MUSSOLINI' WAS QUITE QUAINT. THE ABORTION MOVIE WAS PRETTY CRAP THOUGH! OTHER THAN THE BIT AT THE END WHERE THE SCREAM GUY GOES TOTALLY PSYCHO - THAT WAS ENTERTAINING!

I have seen Scream guy in Without a Paddle I think. He was the jerky one who surfed, if I remember correctly. I quite liked that film.

I have no desire to watch Cher in a film. I find her irritating.

I don't know of any abortion clinics here. As far as I know abortions here all take place in the hospital. We have family planning clinics though, which do lots of other stuff, although they can also refer a girl to the hospital for an abortion.

We do have them, but obviously as they aren't advertised and they don't have massive signs stated what they do, they can go unnoticed, there is one on the next street to me, north road clinic, I saw a girl from my course going in there a few weeks ago!

People do know about abortion clinics but most young people are either too scared to get help or ask what options she has. It is somewhat crazy but at the same time it is informative for young people who don't really know their options. I rather they get an education then throw the baby in a dumpster.

something amazing.

I don't see a big deal. There are commercials about erectile dysfunction, condoms, and plan B. In a perfect world, kids would be taught exactly what sex is and what happens. Abortion clinics are still a business and all businesses should be allowed to advertise on TV (which is funny because cigarette ads aren't allowed... which is strange to me). I'm not religious but I don't pitch a fit when I see a church commercial. You worry about your kids seeing it, but hello? do you even WATCH the television programs? Sex, cursing, commercials with drunken chicks... don't watch TV. Read a book. Get educated. the end. lol.

It's kind of hard explaining to a child what an abortion clinic is when they don't even know where babies come from.
