I think Steve needs to put that security thing where you have to type what you see when you make a diary. That blocks the bots!

They could be "social networking" and making money from it.
They might get paid per "ad" or posting, and that's why there are a bunch of different ones.
Once they get the accounts up and going, they can hire on other people to post more ads, and make more money using the accounts; if it makes any sense.

On a more serious note, how do these spam bots work? What are they expecting to sell if everything they write is just random, jumbled up words and phrases, with the occasional abbreviated link?

How do you even make money off of this?

I say, if anyone actually does click on this shit, and their credit cards/identity ends up getting stolen, I mean... I guess it's a part of being in a Darwinian-style society.

This one is unusual because it doesn't follow the conventions I was looking out for (name-number-name) and what's worse is it has links down the bottom.

For anyone interested, spam is a very big problem on the internet. Bloop has actually been somewhat unaffected when you look at the size of the site.

Spam bots will post links to other pages to make search engines 'trust' the page. A hyperlink is considered a vote of authority in search engine algorithm. So, although it looks pointless to you, to a search engine it's important. When a page gains that trust with the search engine, it climbs the results ladder, and people end up at the page via search engines! They don't even know that it's spam 99% of the time.

I guess our captcha code has become crackable, I altered it a little and it seems to have slowed down the infestation. I'll have to make it a bit more complicated.

I don't know if its getting worse..but the names are starting to become less obvious. Like I said 2 posts ago.. there was the imogendavies one..and now i just found mcqueensteven they are less obvious in the way of name - but when you click on them - they actually have links in them.

This is crazy. I mean bloop did really well to avoid something like this for so long.
