Yesterday's Interview

05/09/2012

Yesterday I had an Interview for a new store opening up in town called Knifeware. Now, First, I suppose I should mention that I was released from House of Knives after almost 5 years of loyal service. This makes this new store the next natural progression, being a higher class of product than what HoK offers. Needless to say, I've been both super nervous and extremely excited at the same time. As this just kind of popped up after 2 months of fretting and wondering what I was going to do with a good knowledge of Knives and Steel and not a whole lot else.

This place, coming when it did, was like a sign from the powers that be.
Anyways, I digress.

I met Mark (the Manager for the new store) and Kevin (the Owner) last week to check out the Location and offer a hand with Demo. They were very friendly and started telling me all about the plans for the store. I didn't think someone could be more excited than me, these two proved me wrong. Kevin asked me if I'd been to the site, I said yeah. He asked if I had been there before, sheepishly I answered with another, drawn out yes. At which point Kevin laughed, clapped me on the shoulder and offically declared me a Knife Nerd (which is completely true). Before I left, they gave me an interview appointment for Tuesday at 10AM.

I got there for my about 15min early and was thanked for showing up early. Kevin then told me I was now going to be punished by him walking out to answer a phone call.
All in good fun. But then we went over to the coffee place next door and had a little interview session, which felt more akin to an orientation and presentation of the store than an interview of me. Just the standard "Tell us more about yourself" and "Why do you want to work with us" coupled with a few non-conventionals such as "Are you ok with Loud music?" and "How do you feel about Kilts?" I really hope I get this job. These guys are a lot like me and I know I would fit in seemlessly.

I'm really excited for this, I have never wanted something this badly.
