I went home last night to install the new oxygen sensor in the work car. I found that it was in such an awkward position that I had to go to Auto Zone and rent a special tool to access it, one I had the special socket it was no problem. I had to reach far up into the engine compartment from underneath to get to it and its electrical connector but it wasn’t as bad as I had thought it might be. I’m glad I got it done last night, it’s much colder and raining today. I still have to return the tool to Auto Zone and get their counter guy to come out and reset the code in the computer so my check engine light goes out.
A friend contacted me yesterday, we travel together to model car shows and to vintage NASCAR events and there is a model car show in Spartanburg on Saturday so I’ll be driving out to his place early Saturday morning to meet up and drive with him to the show. I wanted to have the check engine light taken care of before then just in case I need to drive. I’ll probably bring that replica of the Fireball 500 movie car that I finished during my Christmas holiday and posted photos here when I finished it.
I also started on another model car project last night. I sort of volunteered to do a photographic how-to for a website I help moderate, there was a great deal of interest expressed in seeing a how-to for converting the stock ’70 Chevelle model kit into a replica of a NASCAR race car from that period. I’ll actually be doing two builds to showcase two different methods. I did some of the preliminary fitting on the more advanced method last night, taking photos as I went along. The more basic 1970 Chevelle will be the “See Rock City” car of the late Raymond “Friday” Hassler and the more advanced build will be the Mike DiProspero owned car that Donnie Allison drove in ’73. |
