I spent a good portion of today in the firing range at work. I was working on a minor feeding issue with this rifle I'm working on, I think I got it resolved but while I was trying things and verifying I fixed the problem I was sharing range time with the pistol group from my department. They were testing a .45 semi-auto pistol and where my puny little .22 rifle was punching itty bitty holes in the target their big .45 bullets were knocking huge holes in it. Basically, the bottom of the target was gone and there was a pile of confetti on the floor of the firing range below where the target was hanging. I was impressed. They must have had 15 or 20 magazines on the table so they could drop a spent magazine and put in a full one without taking a break from firing, I counted 14 bangs per magazine so it seemed like we were up to our ankles in spent .45ACP brass.
The boss is going on vacation starting tomorrow, he'll be gone all next week so he's handing out assignments this afternoon. I'm pretty well along with my tasks but I think I have enough to keep me busy all week. Busy, but not pushed. Just the way I like it!
I'm riding with a friend of mine on Sunday up to Easley, SC to J. B. Day's museum for a get-together to celebrate Raymond Parks's birthday. Raymond Parks was the colorful businessman who owned the car that won the very first NASCAR race ever held, as well as winning the first championship in the New Car Division (now NEXTEL Cup). There should be a bunch of retired drivers on hand, people who founded the sport.
It finally became summertime here in the midlands of South Carolina. It's been in the mid 90's Fahrenheit for the past week but there was a rain shower during lunch that cooled things down to pleasant again. It's supposed to rain today and tomorrow then be cooler for the weekend. I've been procrastinating cutting my grass hoping for cooler and dry on Saturday, let's see if I come up sevens or snake eyes. |
