I seem to have been identified as “Patient Zero” as far as causing feeding jams in a pistol that the pistol guys are testing. Because of that I’ve been called on each of the past three days to walk over to the range and fire anywhere between 200 and 350 rounds through the .45 pistol. I enjoy it, it’s good practice, and I can see that they’re making gains on the feeding problem they experienced. It seems that they believe if it can be made “Tom-proof” then they will have a pistol that’s ready to go. I had to point out to them that my personal Taurus .45 that I carry concealed has never jammed on me at the range… I have about 1000 rounds through various iterations of our pistol, I’m getting a good feel for what I like and dislike about them now.
I had forgotten to mention in my last entry that something pretty cool happened to me through the scale model car message board that I help moderate. Due to increased interest in building replicas of race cars from past eras we created special sections for modeling cars from 1948-1972 and for modeling cars from 1972-1989. Everything else is considered “Modern Era”. Anyway, from time to time a question will be asked about a race car driven by Country Music legend Marty Robbins who was a very accomplished racer in his spare time. Just last week a new member joined and offered to share some photos of the cars raced by Marty Robbins. It turns out that the new member is Marty’s son! I know it sounds geeky but it’s pretty cool to correspond with the son of Marty Robbins about his cars and his career. He seems to be as nice a guy as his father was. |
