Today was an eventful day.
I had a design review today on a project that I’m working on. I can’t really say what the project is, other than it involves items that I wouldn’t legally be allowed to possess outside of work. The review went very well, I have a few questions to answer and calculations to perform but the general consensus is that the design is workable and should be something that will function in actual use.
When I finished the design review I had lunch then returned back here and fired 600 rounds through an assault rifle to test the endurance of a component. The actual test is 6000 rounds but it’s broken down into 10 sets of 600 rounds each. It goes pretty quickly when firing in full-automatic mode, I think I spent less than an hour total and that included reloading the magazines and recording data from the test. We have to cool the barrel with compressed air every 60 rounds too, which takes some time.
When I went out to lunch today with two of my co-workers we had to wait in the parking lot while a repo man repossessed somebody’s vehicle from the parking lot. That really has to suck, getting your vehicle repossessed a week before Christmas and from the parking lot of your job too! Ironically, today was the day when our bonus checks were handed out. I hope they weren’t planning on using their bonus to pay off the debt on the car…
Speaking of automobile payments, tomorrow will mark the final payment on the GTO, the loan will be paid off in full. It still smells and drives like a new car, it has less than 19,000 miles on it. With any luck I’ll have it for a long time to come!
My last day of work before the holiday break is tomorrow. The annual company Christmas party is after work tomorrow evening, then I have to get up early Saturday morning to drive with a friend to Asheville, NC to meet with another friend to discuss doing screen print artwork for a sheet of model car decals. I should be home before dark Saturday evening, then I can begin my holiday. |
