The pistols I bought through work were delivered today. I'm very pleased with them, they both feel like very high-quality handguns. The first is an FN Hi-Power. I'm already in love with the feel and balance of this one, I can see why it's been a popular sidearm among European and Canadian police and military since the 1930's. The grip fits my hand well, and the trigger pull feels pretty good as-is.
Mine's a .40 caliber, and is polished and blued with wood grips:
The second pistol I picked up is an FN Five-seveN, a 5.7mm handgun that fires a unique round. It has a couple of tradeoffs, it's not the best-feeling handgun I've ever held due to the rather long cartridge making for a long (but thankfully narrow) grip. On the plus side, it's got a nice trigger pull and it's incredibly light! 1.6 pounds with a loaded magazine, and very low recoil by all accounts. I like the sights a lot too. I have some ammo being delivered tomorrow, I hope to get out to the range soon and shoot it.
Here is a comparison of the two of them together. Each pistol is a good execution of completely different design philosophies, the Hi-Power on the bottom is a classic European steel-frame semi-automatic and the Five-seveN is a thoroughly modern polymer-frame semi that happens to be designed around a unique cartridge. I like them both, but for different reasons.
