FFS!!!

From Amazon!

From beloved daughter to abused foster child to crack addict, this is the heart-wrenching true story of a girl named Cupcake Brown.
Following her mother’s death, Cupcake was just eleven years old when she entered the child welfare system. Moved from one disastrous placement to the next, like so many, she was neglected and sexually abused. She developed a massive appetite for drugs and alcohol – an appetite fed by hustling and turning tricks – and before long, stumbled headlong into the wild, notoriously dangerous world of the gangsta.

But ironically, it was Cupcake’s rapid descent into the nightmare of crack cocaine addiction that finally saved her. After one crack binge she woke up behind a dumpster. Half dressed and more than half-dead, she finally knew she had to change her life or die.

Brutally frank, startlingly funny, A Piece of Cake is the remarkable true story of a resilient spirit who took on the worst of contemporary urban life and survived it. It is also the most genuinely affecting rollercoaster ride through hell and back that you will ever take.

The book is really well written and pretty funny in places. It proves that anyone, if they have the will, can get out of poverty and terrifying circumstances.

Yes! I loved that book. I read it on a holiday and noticed that another lady was also reading it 'round the pool. I couldn't put it down!

I agree. "4. Finish school. Don't be a fuckup. And when you go to college, major in something practical that will get you a job. Nursing works, so do education and public servant positions. If you're going to a technical school, research it before you give them a dime. A lot of these new tech schools are just unaccredited diploma mills that will eat your money and leave you with a worthless degree that no employer will take. You should also strive to be computer-literate. Take a class, don't get sucked into those stupid "Buy a computer for only $20 a week!" scams you see on tv."

I work for a GED program and you don't know how many ppl come into school to sign up for the exam, telling us how they got a GED diploma through Cornerstone and how colleges and employers won't accept it. Or the amount of ppl coming in from colleges such as Everest saying they are set to graduate in a month and they won't give them their degree if they don't have a GED or High School Diploma.

People will always want to take the "easy" way out....and then learn that its isn't in fact easy.

wait.... People think that one of those crap colleges like Everest Institute will give you a 'college' degree....without you even having to graduate high school or get a GED? What the fuck planet are they on? How does that make any sense!?

Yes and the sad thing is...there are a lot of them that come in from Everest. People just don't do the research before they go into things.

HONESTLY, I THINK SHE HAS SOME GOOD POINTS, AND ALSO SOME DODGY POINTS, BUT I DO NOT THINK THIS IS A SUREFIRE WAY FOR ANYONE AND EVERYONE TO AVOID POVERTY. I THINK THAT IS A REALLY NAIVE AND IGNORANT VIEW, YO! LIKE, THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER FACTORS AT PLAY IN INDIVIDUALS' LIVES.

I ALSO THINK MUCH OF THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND IT IS SELFISH AND SNOBBY. OF COURSE, SELFISHNESS AND SNOBBERY HELP TREMENDOUSLY IN THE GAME OF SOCIAL CLIMBING, BUT THEY ARE NOT TRAITS THAT EVERYONE WISHES TO ATTAIN TO.
