ARTICLE! I'm not a huge baby person-- but this is pretty freakin' rad.

Basically, it's a book-box filled with the following:
Mattress, mattress cover, undersheet, duvet cover, blanket, sleeping bag/quilt
Box itself doubles as a crib
Snowsuit, hat, insulated mittens and booties
Light hooded suit and knitted overalls
Socks and mittens, knitted hat and balaclava
Bodysuits, romper suits and leggings in unisex colours and patterns
Hooded bath towel, nail scissors, hairbrush, toothbrush, bath thermometer, nappy cream, wash cloth
Cloth nappy set and muslin squares
Picture book and teething toy
Bra pads, condoms

Not only is this pretty awesome of the GOVERNMENT TO GIVE THIS---FOR FREE!, but Finland also has the lowest infancy mortality rate in the world.

*Personally, I think all babies should sleep in cardboard boxes.

*note: I thought it said "baclava" at first (instead of balaclava)... I got excited. :(

On the other hand - Finland also pay significantly higher taxes. There are various other European countries that have a similar system - their tax is huge but their health care system is astronomically better than other countries.

A few years ago I was looking at some of these European countries and I noticed that they did pay a bucket load in taxes, but things such as health care, education and employments were really, really good.

What I also should have said - more relevant to the post really - it does sound like a good little care package!

The only thing they should be giving out is condoms. As a population control method. Everything else is just an incentive to breed, which I oppose.

We don't get this in the UK but we get 9 months entitled maternity leave and free health care / maternity care. And like Finland, we pay more taxes than the US. Think you have to pick one... can't have both... I'd rather pay more taxes personally.

That's awesome. I'm an American of Finnish descent, and I think America needs to be more like Finland.

What a delightful thing.

I wonder, however, about the box as a crib with the recent concern about air flow in cribs. Crib bumpers are no longer recommended in cribs because they limit air flow around the baby (SIDS concern). Is there a similar concern with the solid walls of the cardboard box?

seeing that Finland has the LOWEST BABY DEATH RATE IN THE WORLD-- I would say that they're onto something.

If we had this in my country (the Philippines), maybe less mothers would choose to give birth at home (potentially dangerous) :(
