Lack of Community

I came here, a few years ago, when the site I had been keeping my blog was collapsing before our very eyes. Now, having returned (after a hiatus of sorts), I realize the community Bloop once was, is no longer.
What happened? There very few new entries in a day, very few people "online" at a time, lack of noting, lack of ... well, almost everything.
Is there a site out there that has a bigger community? Or are we just keep quiet?

I agree with miss Meg. I love bloop, I write a lot, but I have also been involved in some not so great drama. I try to comment but sometimes I fail at that. I also write on OD which blows just as bad as far as commenting goes. I miss my bloop buddies, I am learning to write for me and no one else....but I miss them

My personal opinion? There are a lot of people who were friends or who belonged to certain groups, etc. and they became too drama filled and filled with judgment. People are just getting fed up with the lack of comments, lack of respect, or simply just don't have the desire to write anymore.

I still love my bloop; but I like writing in my public blog better because those who read that are truly those who take the time to invest in friendship with me.

No, not at all! I write on my wordpress blog at all. I use that as a public blog so I only write information there I am comfortable sharing with the world. That is the difference between that blog and my blog here. Here I write very personal things so only the people on my friends only list can read.

A lot of people from back then have grown up and moved on / got busy.
I'd be amazed to find one single website people don't grow tired of after a few years.

That said, I love Bloop. There might not be many people, but the ones I do talk to are the bees knees.
So it's still worth it [for me] to hang around.

Thanks guys- I like bloop too but just wish people, including the moderators, were more active. Leaves this place feeling, empty, a lot.
I found another place to post, though, I'll still post here because like a lot of you, have friends here. Just wanting... idk, MORE.

Yep, Bloop has declined over the years, and is now a sad little puddle. But then most traditional diary/blog sites have declined, to some extent or other, as the microblogging trend of Twitter and Facebook has taken over. As people tend to belong to more and more sites, they have less time for each, so writing updates of 140 characters is far easier - specially when using one's phone, as more and more people do lately.

There are sites with bigger communities - Bloop has always been pretty tiny compared to the rest - but they are communities within huge sites, and you have to make an effort to find like-minded people to build up your own community. It's do-it-yourself community, rather than ready-made community. Ready-made community never really works over time, because people leave, new people arrive, and so dynamics change constantly.

Oh, and a lot of people left Bloop because of the 'crash' - when the server died and everyone's diaries were lost and irretrievable. Sure, there's been drama, but there's been drama right from the start. I actually think Bloop's present deadness is largely due to lack of drama - like, nothing is going on! Drama attracts the crowds, and causes people to rally together.

Wow, I didn't even know there was a crash. That' horrible. I happen to have a lot to say and a lot going on- so a bloop like site is definitely more for me. *sigh* I guess I'll just give up trying to find a large community and stick with the smaller, more intimate ones. Ya'll better come out of your turtle shells and start noting though, seriously!! ;) kidding. No drama here.. just a girl who needs distractions! hehehe

Two crashes, but only one that actually lost everyone's diaries, if I recall correctly.

Ehm, hasn't OD had crashes too, but without losing diaries? Or were diaries lost there too?

Gosh, anyone remember the Bloop bug where people's private messages and comments started randomly appearing publicly in the wrong diaries? Talk about major panic! Fortunately that was nipped in the bud quite promptly!

Hahahaha, I remember that!

I was disappointed because I got a few messages in my inbox... but they were nothing juicy. Just boring responses :(

I had one that had someone's personal details on - phone number and stuff, that they'd private messaged someone. Not very interesting to me - but, like, total privacy breach! After that, if ever I left a private comment with my personal info, I would ask the diarist to delete it after they'd read it.

I had absolutely no idea all of that had happened here. Now I understand a bit more!!
Yeah, OD had a few crashes but I never, personally, lost anything and my acct there is over ten years old. SO thank GOD for that. I had heard of people losing notes and entries but full diaries, I don't think so..I could be wrong though!!

Most people who had free diaries that had been created on "FOD" (it was originally two separate sites that he ended up merging under one name) had their diaries wiped out when the hacker attacked OD back in I think it was 2004. And the DM had been warned it was coming and still didn't have a proper backup anyway. So yes, lots of people lost their whole diaries. Those who were solely on "OD" only had about 2 months or something like that get wiped.
