In this thread I would like to maybe chat with other painters out there. I would like to know what you like to paint! Do you like to paint on canvas,
walls, pottery? do you paint flowers or scenery? People? I love all types of painting.

I tend to fart around with water color and ink, so a lot of what i do is on Bristol paper. But if i'm feeling frisky i'll stretch my own canvas and paint that, if i'm using canvas i tend to use acrylic paint. I don't like oil, i used to use it in school but ONLY when it was required. i just don't like it, dunno why. When i do paint though it depends on the medium. If i'm on canvas using acrylic i tend to just let my mind wander, and i wind up painting weird stuff. Not so much weird but stuff that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense, it's like doodling but extremely detailed and painstakingly organized. If i'm using watercolor and ink i tend to paint body parts. Never whole people, but i'll paint mouths, hands, feet, eyes, faceless profiles and detailed hair, etc. I would paint whole people but i like close ups, especially mouths. They're pretty fun to paint.

That sounds pretty great! I have never stretched my own canvas! I always get the pre-made ones from the craft store, but I never had any fromal art training. I tend to paint kind of wierd stuff too. The purple and green sea monster thing that is my profile pic, is a photo of a painting I did one day. I have painted flying eyeballs, a strawberry with flames and wings... I don't know really but its fun anyway! I have never really gotten into the water colors but also I never really gave it a good try. I just use acrylic on everything, then a sealer if needed. I would love to see some cool close ups! Thank you for your input!

Are you serious?! I PAINT FLYING EYEBALLS ALL THE DAMN TIME!! And your strawberry with wings sounds awesome, any time i paint a sky instead of clouds i always wind up painting toasters with angel wings and happy faces hahaha. Painting with watercolors is always either a love it or hate it, at first i HATED IT. Paint goes everywhere, it was such a pain in the ass. But after a few good runs with it, i wound up liking it, and watercolor and ink is great. Doesn't even have to be like well pen or quill and ink, just a really good, loose ink pen will do great. I definitely suggest trying it. :D I'd love to see some of your work!

@luckyrose I looked you up and snooped through some of your albums, and first off you're great! Secondly how did you get into tattooing? it's something i've wanted to do since i was LITTLE, swear to god my mom framed the 1st grade paper "what do you want to be when you grow up? : A tattoo person." lol. Did you apprentice? Or did you just buy a gun and ink and practice with pig skin? I've heard the pig skin route is the easiest way to get used to what kind of pressure you have to apply, and what it's like to tattoo a real person. SO MANY QUESTIONS lol. There's a tattoo supply shop about an hour from me, i've been thinking hard about going and just buying a starter gun and some ink and playing with it and some piggy skin.

@Betch- thank you for checking out some of my work! I have some things for sale on etsy, my shop is called Luckyrose2777. I actually got lucky with the whole tattoo thing, a friend of mine did it out of his house and when he saw some of my drawings, he really wanted to let me try. I never used a fake skin or a pig, always real people. Of course my friend with the equiptment and some liquor in him let me try, and somehow, it was a success. Not a perfect success, but I didn't hurt anyone (which I was terrified of at first) and it came out decent. over the course of three days I did 4 huge peices on this guy and they all got better every time. I didnt start taking pictures until my 5th tattoo, which was the photo of a pile of skulls with a symbol that says Devil Driver. I have quite a few tagged, because half the time I cant find my camera, and the other half, the pics come out blurry for some reason. I pieced my machine and equipment together bit by bit until I now have a full size studio. I went to highschool with a really talented guy Named Mike that owned a shop by the time he was 22, called Relentless Tattoo. I apprenticed under him for a while until my car broke down and he moved his shop about 65 miles further away. So I am currently looking for another apprenticship, but I am still have car issues, so I don't know. I have some things I could sell you for very cheap if u really want to give it a try. There are some great videos on youtube u should watch also. just search how to tattoo.

I paint with acrylics on canvas, and I mostly paint things that I can see. I can't paint things just out of my head though I wish I could.

@RedFraggle totally thought i posted this earlier lol. Painting things that you can see, i find almost always to be WAY HARDER than things you CAN'T see. Because if you let your imagination go nuts, turn on some weird music and just go nuts, you can always alter and change things, if you make a mistake you can turn it into something and work with it. But if i'm trying to paint, for example, a chair...it's a lot less forgiving lol. So, kudos to you! Drawing and painting still life or portraits has a degree of simplicity, because there's always a reference. But it's also very unforgiving, and i always wind up getting frustrated and instead of drawing a bottle, i'll wind up drawing what a bottle would look like in a four dimensional space. With aliens. And probably a toaster or two. lololol.
