See above link for the explanation that Facebook gives. Check out the first video and be amused that there are posts and photos from the 90s.

What are your thoughts on the Cover? Stories? Apps?

Do you find it easy to navigate or cluttered and busy?

Have you already made the switch? (Can you switch back, out of curiosity?)

New Zealand were first to switch over completely - so I've seen all the profiles of my family switch over to the new one. Normally I hate change...like despise it...I think bloop changed something once and I hated to and sooked over it for ages. Youtube recently changed and I'm still sooking over it. When facebook originally changed, I loathed it. My point is - I normally HATE changes and screwing around with websites that are easy to navigate. But I actually really like the new facebook timeline. It took my barely 10 minutes to figure it all out and I actually think for once, it does look and feel cleaner and easier to use. I wish it had the function to delete OLD posts, I started my facebook in 2007 and obviously there's stuff I posted back then that i don't want accessible, but other than that I really like it.

I thought it had the option to delete or hide old posts...one moment...

On the info page, it says this: "Control who sees your stuff
Only the people you originally shared a post with can see it on your timeline. If you want, you can go back and change who sees a post, delete it or just hide it from your timeline."

Here is the answer:

"How do I hide a story on my timeline?
You get to decide which stories appear on your timeline. To hide a story so that it no longer appears on your timeline:
Hover over the story and click
Click Hide from Timeline
Note that stories you hide will still show up in your activity log, which only you can see, and still be eligible to appear in your friends' News Feeds. If you would like to remove a story you posted from Facebook altogether, you can do so by selecting Delete Post.... If you believe that something someone else has posted violates the Facebook Terms, you can report the story."

So you have to do them one by one. Well, that sucks. But honestly, I don't go and look at my friends' posts from 2007. I don't care enough to do so.

Is the feed still the same? When you go to "Home," does all the posts still appear as before, i.e. no timeline?

But all your posts were already there for friends to see anyway. The timeline just makes it quicker to navigate - rather than continuing to scroll down and click 'older posts', which is rather time-consuming, people can navigate straight to any year they want to. But it's always been the case that you have to delete old entries one by one if you don't want people to find them.

I looooove it. I changed mine over in September using the developer app, and I think it's just so much more streamlined... much more attractive. I love being able to have a cover photo as well; a little customisation is much better than a lot - I'm sure we all remember MySpace pages that were so graphics heavy they used to crash our browsers!

I like it.. my privacy is already set to Friends Only so ONLY my friends can see what I would have posted anyway before the Time Line. :)

@Stephanie: Facebook automatically changed some posts to public, for some reason. I've always been Friends Only on there (highest possible privacy settings) and I found that some of mine still went public.

Yeh I've had the same problem - My facebook is Friends only, yet some how things slip through the cracks. I'm constantly viewing my profile as public just to check what's shown up to the public and then I delete it.

makes stalking easier. other than people momentarily confused, i didn't really care about the new layout. i'm just waiting for the usual "we hate change" rage to start popping up.

The new layout is completely unusable for me (everything below the cover, that is) because the columns of information are confusing and painful for my eyes. The back and forth nature of the timeline layout is very counter-intuitive to how we read.

I don't like it for the 'makes stalking easier' reasons, but I actually find it easier to read, having taken a look at a few profiles. It's less bitty and fragmented - rather than one fat column and two thin ones with different-lengthed dribs and drabs in them, everything is in two columns with identical width and height, like a newspaper. And the updates themselves are each in little boxes. Every individual thing is in a box. I love that! It's something I always do myself when writing stuff in notebooks - draw a box around each thought! Nice and neat and makes it easier to focus on one thing at a time. I would actually like FB to do the same with the main feed.

Much easier to navigate too - hence the 'makes stalking easier'!

The ads have shrunk considerably too - they're now on the outskirts rather than being in one of the columns.

I'm kind of intimidated by it to tell the truth, but curious. Several of my friends have it, and it looks so confusing and out of order on their profiles. I guess that's how things are at first, can't find anything, can't navigate anything. Here's to hoping it gets better. I haven't switched yet, I guess I'll wait until I'm forced to.

I switched it a few months back, (by using the developer cheat!) so I've had time to get used to it ;D

I actually REALLY like it. I'm glad that others are finally starting to have the same profile, instead of the three or four friends who did the same thing I did to get it ;D

I've never hated the changes. Some took a while to get used to and I never got the "don't ever change! FB was best the way it was!!!" Yeah there are things I miss about the old 2006 fb but it wouldn't work in today's world. Everything changes: ppl just need to get used to it.

As for the timeline I quite like it. My fb is all friends only anyways (or at least acquaintances xD) and nothing but my profile pics are public, which I check once a week to make sure nothing got through my privacy filter.

I'm "friends only" on facebook and I do the same - view my profile as "public" occasionally to see if any of my posts were made accidentally public. Facebook does that sometimes, and it pisses me off!

@Teresa exactly. I do not want anything of mine public and I do that for a very specific reason. I constantly get ppl adding me on Google+ for no reason and there's NOTHING on that account... much less on facebook, an account I DO use constantly. And I have 2 subscribers who I have NO idea who they are which is why I refuse to put anything on public. :-/

I do agree w/ 1 of your fb posts, sometimes the square pictures as a preview on the timeline make regular size pictures look weird.... xD

I like it. :) It's more intuitive and customisable. The ads are (or at least, appear) smaller! I don't find the back-and-forth between the columns confusing - I actually think it's a really cute idea. Facebook did good!

Although what DOES annoy me is the fact that my Friends appear twice - once in the strip just below the cover photo and again at the top of the timeline on the right. Unnecessary duplication.

I think I can deal with the change because I rarely go to anyone's profile, except as a gateway to their picture albums. I guess I should find a Cover photo.
