Blocking people who go to FO?

When I realized that a Blooper who is particularly into causing and perpetuating Bloop drama blocked me I was kind of taken aback. Not that I give two craps about what any of you block me for or why, but out of sheer curiosity -- do people automatically block if you go on FO? If so, how 'bout being an adult about it? Just a thought, yo!

Some people may have their diary set so that if they can't see your diary, you can't see their diary.

And I can't see your diary anymore! :(

They may just have set their diary to block diaries that they can't read. Mine is set to that. If I can't read someone else's diary I'm afraid they're not getting to read mine!

But... why? That seems kind of childish. If I have valid reasons for making my diary FO, (for instance, someone IRL finding it and reacting adversely to what I've written) why should that disqualify me from reading others' diaries? It just seems like a non-sequitur.

It's not childish at all. I like to be able to see who's read my diary because I don't want people who i know IRL finding and reading it. I don't think it's unreasonable one bit to expect to be able to view the diaries of others who view mine. If there's particular things you want to keep private then put those entries on FO and leave your diary on MO. My diary is MO, with FO entries for those which I don't want anyone and everyone on Bloop reading.

I actually think it's quite unreasonable for you to think it's ok for you to be able to read others diaries if you're not willing to offer them the same courtesy.

And if you particularly do want to read a diary that is set up this way, you can always add them to your friends list.

True. It was kind of a hasty decision to go FO on my part, but then again, it kind of had to be. I wasn't sure if the roommate was reading my diary while she was at work or just when she was at home, and I didn't want to allow her access any longer than need me.

@Emily -- It was a fucking great day, I'm not gonna lie. CLEARLY I have too much time on my hands. rofl.

I don't think it's childish either. I think NOT having the setting can be kind of creepy. Like a one-way mirror. xD Why should they get to read you when you can't read them?

I also have my diary set up this way. I had IRL people trying to read me so I went MO with the "can't viewer met if I can't view you" option on.

Isn't there a "request to view" button when you go to one of those diaries?

When I go to Der/Dopplerganger's diary, I get this message:

Sorry, we can't display this page to you.
This diarist only allows a select list of members to view their diary. If you'd like to request to be on this list, click the button below.

Do you get that message when you click on a diary that is MO but has selected to not allow FO diaries?

It's not childish. You may have valid reasons for being FO but others also have valid reasons for having their privacy settings set up a certain way. =/ It's not really a big deal.

Do people automatically block if you go on FO?
I don't think anyone would block you just because you go on FO.
But some might find it safer to block people whose diary they cannot see.

I definitely wouldn't like to not be able to see someone's diary or what they are writing - but they can see whatever entry I make. Because if they want to talk crap about me behind their wall, I wouldn't be able to know - thus, not be able to defend myself. That's not fair at all.

i'm a mo fo, but i do have it set up that i can't see you then you can't see me. don't think it's really fair that an fo only diary can read me all the time, not comment, yet i can't look at their diary. that's mainly why i did. had an fo diary reading all my entries and never saying anything. who does that?

Tee hee! This is about meeeee! I am the naughty drama-perpetuating Blooper, who evilly has my diary set up so people whose diaries I can't see also can't see mine. ;D Well, golly gosh, I actually have quite a few hardcore haterz who block me (or I did back in the day - only four left now!) and who would then stalk me, because they loved to read my drama. So I deprive them the pleasure of seeing it - or at least make it more difficult for them (they find ways round it, I'm sure!). Childish maybe - sure. But fun. This is Bloop, yo - no rules about being 'adult'! Bloop's the place where people can have fun being childish and creat dramaz, like, say, the Stay Classy diary and things like that! ;D Anyone gonna be continuing that diary, yo?

And yes, this also means FO people from whose friends list I'm excluded can't read either, but hey, how I see it is that if you (the generic you) don't consider me a friend and don't want to invite me into your life, you're unlikely to be wanting to read and be involved in the details of my life either. I stay MO so that any new people may get to know me if they want. I'm always open to new friends. But when you become FO you kinda close yourself off from new friends.

BTW, if someone has actually properly blocked you, rather than having their diary set up a certain way, it will specifically say 'This diarist has blocked you' when you click on their diary.
