Do you smoke? If so, why do you smoke and how many packs do you smoke?
*I smoke occasionally. I smoked when I'm stressed, I'll smoke while we're having a party(not a lil kids party, no smoking in front of kids EVER) and I'll smoke when I'm pissed. Depending on what, I'll smoke 1 or I'll have a few.

If you're no longer a smoker, have you ever smoked? If so, how did you give up- was it easy for you or did you struggle?
*I've smoked on & off since I was 15-16 years old.

If you've never smoked in your life, would you ever consider trying it?

And finally, what are your thoughts on smoking in general?
Do you think it should be made legal in public places like before (like, pubs, trains, etc.)? Or totally banned?
*Smoking is ultimately ones choice. I don't smoke in public places b.c I don't wanna piss people of LOL. Anytime I do do it, its in the privacy of my own home or friends houses. I never smoke in front of my kids.. That's a HUGE no-no!!

That's good you don't smoke in front of children.
I avoid smoking in front of children as much as I can.
I smoke at the streets so you can't avoid it if a child walks by.
But, say, I'm waiting at the bus-stop & there's a family there, I'd throw my fag away or move my distance (:

I know, I know, let's just ban everything that involves personal choice and let the state decide what we can and cannot do. Certainly that would be the best for everyone. It's all about the common good, after all, so fuck individual freedom.

I think it's great that you have the consideration to not smoke around others. Unfortunately, too many others who smoke do NOT have the same consideration or sense to not smoke right around another person that doesn't smoke. My Grandma, for example, will light up right around anyone - and, she chain smokes, to top it off - so it's one after another, and sometimes two or three lit at a time and she has a very nasty attitude when it comes to others who ask her not to smoke in their presence, etc.

I wish it were possible that everyone would develop some consideration to NOT smoke around others, or to NOT smoke around children, and to realize that their bad habit does effect others - but sadly, most will NOT take that consideration and will light up around others. I don't think it's best to ban it entirely, but I think it absolutely needs to be banned from public areas.

We have a ban here and we aren't supposed to allow/permit smoking within so many feet of entrances, etc. but it happens all the time. I absolutely hate walking out of the grocery store with my kids and getting blasted in the face by smoke. =\

I started smoking about a year and a half ago and go through a half pack a day, maybe a little more. I understand bans in resturants and places where people don't have a choice but to inhale other peoples smoke, but I don't think it's fair to ban it in public period. As far as I'm aware, where I live you have to be a certain amount of feet from a businesses door to smoke. Which is fine with me, I know the hazards of smoking so it's not fair for me to expose others to it.

But it's also not fair for something that's totally legal to be banned in public altogether. It's not really a good choice to make, but it's still a choice and it's still a freedom we have.

i smoke when i'm drunk. you can get fined for smoking with kids in your car here. australia got pretty strict about it. i did like them banning in it bars, but the smell doesn't bother me so much. but health wise it's great for bar workers that don't smoke.

I am a smoker. I smoke about a pack a week.

I personally don't smoke around children, babies or non-smokers.
But then again, I see many parents themselves smoke a cig while holding their infant, and then I wonder how they feel doing that, especially when I don't have any children and feel self-conscious and guilty.

I think that smoking should be legal again for smoking in places that have a designated place, like what kein mitleid said.
Because as a person may complain about my smoke hurting their health, their whining and complaining and bitching about every single thing that others do also hurts my health, as it stresses me out and puts me into a panic attack and rage and that makes my heart hurt - so we should make free speech illegal also, because it's harmful to listen to stupid people.

I smoke. 3 packs a week, if i'm not going out. when drinking i can easily smoke a pack in 5 or 6 hours.
There is a ban in place here that doesn't allow you to smoke in public establishments, you have to be 9 feet from any entrance, no smoking in bars, no smoking in cars with kids under 16, you aren't even supposed to smoke in parking garages & things like that.
Smoking is my decision, just as quitting is.
& i'll quit, eventually. But for now, i'm okay with my decision.

I love smoking. Oh man, I miss it! But I gave up because of the cost.

If they ever prove these electronic cigarettes pose no risk to your health then I'd take it back up again. There's nothing better for when you're stressed than a cig. And I get stressed a lot ;)

Also, pubs were way better when everyone was allowed to smoke. Now all the interesting people are outside. And clubs smell of feet and vomit. At least cigarette smoke isn't as disgusting smelling as stale sweat!

I'm a non-smoker (I'm asthmatic. *nerd snort/glasses nudge*), but if people want to smoke, they're going to smoke. I do really dislike when smokers gather around a door and smoke, because then I'm forced to be a hardcore geek and bust out my inhaler in public, and that's just not cool, guys. Have you ever seen someone bust out an inhaler, shake it a couple times, take a deep breath from it, and look cool? Impossible. I really don't care if people smoke. I mean, it's the same as drinking. If you're legal, you're legal. You're old enough to make the decision to ruin my swagger with your rainy-day-door-huddling, you're old enough for the emphysema, lung cancer, lip cancer, and always smelling horrible.

I don't smoke and I never have and I never will, I think it is horrible and in most cases rather selfish, such as parents smoking or people smoking around non-smokers.

I do agree with public smoking bans, before the bans places would have a smoking section and a none smoking section, however these weren't separate rooms, in most places where the none smoking section ended it would be about a metre away from the smoking section! Not only is that a problem but in establishments where smoking is allowed all staff members health is at risk. It is also lovely going out and not having to dodge red hot fags held by drunk people who seem to be intent on burning you and your clothes! There are some instances where people could use their common sense more, for example at festivals in the massive tents smoking isn't allowed, which I think is a bit extreme.

I would like it if people had to be a certain distance from doorways, I hold my breathe as I walk in if there are a lot of people smoking, but it doesn't stop me stinking of smoke, even walking behind someone who is smoking annoys me so I try to dodge them, I always manage to get a massive lung full of smoke that makes me hack like an old lady.

My mum smokes in the house and I hate it, my dad and I have asthma so constantly breathing in her smoke makes it worse, while I'm at university after a few weeks all of my asthma symptoms vanish and after a few hours of being at home they are back.

I smoke, solely because I am addicted and turn into an evil vile creature if I don't get a nicotine fix. I smoke maybe about 3/4 of a pack a day, sometimes more sometimes less. I started when I was 16/17ish but I tried my first cigarette when I was 13. I have quit a few times, once very successfully last year, but then life took a turn for the worse and I picked it back up again. I plan on quitting again (for health and financial reasons) very soon...though I have been saying that for a while now, but I think I've just about built up enough inner strength to do so. I don't have a problem with it being banned in public buildings or having to smoke so many feet away from entrance doors. I can't blame any non smoker for not wanting to be subjected to second hand smoke. Even after quitting for a day I notice how strongly cigarettes smell on other people so I can see why it would really bother someone whose never smoked before. You can't smoke it any bars or public buildings here, or in a car with a kid under 16.

I've never smoked. I don't actually know why - I always say it's because both my parents were smokers, but that seems ilogical; if both my parents smoked and that was the influence I was getting growing up, wouldn't I be picking up on the habbit? I don't know, I'm going to continue to say that with both my parents smoking, I decided not to. Also my grandmother was a bad smoker and she had terrible problems with asthma and things, even from quite early on. I remember "trying" her oxygen machine - lord it was awful! HA! That's probably what put me off smoking.

I'm suprised though, I mean as a teenager I drank probably way too much and yet no matter what, I never put a cigarette in my mouth. I have never even tried, not a single puff, nothing. It's been tempting when drunk, but still to this day, and I'm about to turn 24, I haven't.

Even on the multiple times my dad tried to quit, his method of quitting was to hand me the box of cigarettes and told me to hide them. It made it harder for him to get to and in the instance where he was desperate, he'd have to ask me for one and I'd give him a massive guilt trip. At 16 years old, I was in charge of the guilt trips ha!

My Mum and Sister smoke. They don't know I know, but they do; they don't hide it well. My sister's smoked since she was 14. They both shut themselves in the bathrooms to do it (my mum in her bathroom, my sister in our shared bathroom). It's ridiculous. I can smell the smoke after she's out of there. I went in last night and I could smell it, I didn't think anything of it but when I came out I was coughing like crazy (it affects my breathing pretty bad).

LOL @ your mum & your sister smoking in separate bathrooms!
Couldn't they smoke together? Or does your mum not know that your sister smokes?

Oh the stupidity of it really. My mum "quit" smoking when her mother died (from smoking related illnesses/ailments) she cut back considerably. But she started again with the stress. She pretends she doesn't smoke. She hides it from my sister and I. Unfortunately I've seen her out at the shop or something smoking, I just don't confront her about it.
It's like being in denial sort of. If she hides it from my sister and I, she can't acknowledge she still smokes. If she acknowledges she smokes, then she's failed at quitting etc. If that makes sense?

We found out my sister smoked when she was about 16. She got in trouble for it I think. So she went and hid it as well. I don't think my mum knows she still smokes, but she used to know about it, I think she's under the illusion that my sister quit.

Obviously this gives some insight into how messed up my family is haha. My mum hiding things, my sister hiding things, and me standing on the sidelines screaming "Do you both think I'm that stupid?"

i was a smoker, i quit about a year ago. For me it was quite easy to give up, but morning sickness really helped there! Even as a smoker i was glad that there was a ban put into pubs and clubs, but now it's becoming quite ridiculous. They are putting bans in a lot of open air places that i believe would benefit from designated areas, because being in a place where there is nowhere to have a smoke is really hard when you have the addiction. Also, instead of taxing people more on cigarettes i believe that quit methods should be cheaper and more help be out there for those who want to quit
