I love horror movies because I love scaring myself. Problem is, I haven't really been scared by a horror movie in a LONG time.

What I'm asking from you is recommendations of movies that actually scared, frightened, or disturbed you.
If it made you stop watching because you were scared... if you had to sleep with the lights on... if you couldn't stop thinking about it a week later... then I want to hear about it.

3 movies immediately come to mind:

1) I Spit On Your Grave 2010. It's just a horrifically Graphic and brutal movie. Both for content and storyline. Not a real bloody movie per se, but it will make you cringe. Also, it's remake of a 1978 classic.

2) Pieces. Again, nothing truly original or whatever in this one OTHER than the ending.

3) Wrong Turn 1/2/3. I just LOVE this series of movies. The utter graphic-ness of the kill scenes mostly. I always sort of cheer for the bad guys. LOL

I will even leave links where you can find the movies to watch:

I saw the first Wrong Turn movie and wasn't impressed... I don't like the "creepy hillbillies" trope.

But I'll check out the other ones. I don't know that I've heard of them before.

@Movie Frog: You're gonna TOTALLY love the ending. LOL It takes a few minutes for the movie to sort of kick in and get interesting...but once it does, watch out.

@ Me: What made I Spit On Your Grave REALLY disturbing is what some people have pointed out. It's COMPLETELY possible. And due to the lead-ups to the end, even though you KNOW you shouldn't be rooting for her, you find yourself doing it anyhow.

The original came out in 1978 and was YEARS ahead of it's time.

@ Music God: I watched I Spit On Your Grave last night and was REALLY freaked out by it. Like you said, one of those completely possible things! Although, to be fair, she made a HUGE idiotic mistake in the first place like telling the guys that she was staying there.

^ Okay, that makes it sort of sound like she deserved what she got, which isn't what I meant at all, lol. I just meant.. hello, idiot. Do not tell creepy gas station men where you're staying, when you're going to be THAT secluded, and ALONE.

@Loo I saw the first one and it was just... ugh. I didn't realize when MG said what it was and I just wiki-ed it and realized I saw the 1978 original at one point in time. :-/ Def not a movie I really wanna rent, even if it is a remake. I can tolerate a lot but rape is def. one of those things that I just simply don't really care to watch happen.

@Lauren: LOL, I know what you meant. Yeah, she sort of sets herself up by talking to the creepers at the gas station in the beginning. The Sheriff thing was a nice twist. And the "kill shot" at the end gets TOTAL kudos for second best ending of any slasher film EVER.

@Music God: I have to ask... what's the BEST ending if that's only the second best?

@MG I don't see how the elaborate revenge parts are possible (granted I'm thinking of the 1978 original b/c I haven't seen the remake and I don't think I will; rape horror film are def. not something I can really do; I don't even remember how I saw the original. I did wiki the new one though so I can at least be able to talk about it xD). The gang rape is MUCH more possible and disturbing imo b/c that actually has happened to women. However the elaborate revenge sequences for ALL of the guys who raped it? I find that hard to believe.

On the other note, I really wanna see that revenge part b/c I love gore. Just not the gang raping part. xD

@Love Nik: They didn't really re-invent the wheel in the new one. They added a bit to the dialogue in places. Mainly, it was just in the more modern film techniques. The other thing they did in this one was sort of slip it around. The rape scene is LESS graphic in this one but the Revenge scenes are ratcheted up a couple knots.

I'm not saying it's LIKELY that the revenge parts would happen, but given time and planning, I think a pissed off woman hell bent on revenge like that COULD pull it off. Remember the old saying, Hell Hath No Fury...

I posted a link at the top where you can actually watch it online. That will allow you to skip towards the middle to end parts and past the actual rape part.

@MG Yeah I fast forwarded through most of the 1st bit in the original. I read something somewhere that the new one was more enjoyable b/c the acting was better. xD

Ok that makes more sense. xD A woman alone in the woods for a month is not enough time to overpower 5-6 men w/o extensive planning imo. Not impossible, but just not as likely.

I clicked on the link but then my computer sent up all sorts of warning things so I was kinda scared (plus I'm at work xD); have you ever gotten viruses from that website?

@Love Nik: Here's a better cleaner link: http://stagevu.com/video/vvgqhctuxkrs

That other site is good but you have to know exactly WHICH one to hit otherwise it shoots you off into the universe, so to speak. This one, just hit the play button and it starts right after the rape scene happens.

I think I'm going to sit down and watch the ORIGINAL Piranha movies tonight. It's been a good long time since I seen them and think it'd be a good night to refresh the ole brain matter on it. LOL

@MG thanks for the link! That didn't set off any warning bells on the virus stuff; thanks!

And good lord. I ended up finding a full one and just fast forwarding through the rape scenes; gotta say I didn't feel sorry for the men at all. Not one bit. Especially not Johnny or the Sheriff. Ughhhh. I loved how she tailored each revenge to what they did to her. Much more poetic.

@Love Nik: Yeah, They definitely play the parts well. You end up having NO sympathy for them and I found myself rooting for her, even though there were a few spots that I cringed at. (The Eyeball part, the teeth part, and the acid part)

@MG Lol I was quite surprised that I didn't cringe at all. It just felt very deserving. I normally do cringe at extremely graphic bits but that I didn't at all.

@ Love Nik: It's a horror movie about Mutant Hillbilly Cannibals...I don't tend to expect much by way of acting. LOL

I will say that it was TOTALLY awesome seeing Rollins in the second one.

I have the same problem. I love horror movies, but nothing actually scares me anymore. 28 Days/Weeks Later has a few decent jump scenes in it, and Jeepers Creepers is always good. Umm.. If you want something more 'classic', I would say check out The Body Snatchers: The Invasion Continues (there's a couple Body Snatcher movies I think, but this one is the best). If you're looking for pure gore, I would obviously say Hostel and Saw (which I'm guessing you've seen), and Dead Alive. Dead Alive is a B movie, but it's funny/disgusting/creepy all at once.

If you don't mind B Movies or are just looking for the ones that are creepy on a more psychological level, I'd say check out Dead End, Dead Birds, The Burrowers, Dog Soldiers and Frozen. Frozen isn't really a horror movie per se, but it's one of the only ones on this list that actually freaked me out a bit.

My all time personal favorite is Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight. There's nothing really special about it, but I adore it.

@ Poetic Justice - OMG, Frozen had me terrified for weeks. I refused to go outside alone if it was dark because there are wolves in my area and I just KNEW one would come after me... LOL.
