Dating website for ugly people...

THE world's first dating site for UGLY people has been launched in the UK.

TheUglyBugBall.co.uk specifically excludes "anyone who is overtly pretty or attractive".

Instead, it accepts only those who "weren't blessed with great looks" — or, more bluntly, people who have "fallen from the ugly tree and hit every branch on their way down".

According to the site's straight-talking creator Howard James, it offers the "aesthetically challenged" a much-needed service.
Mr James, a multimillionaire entrepreneur from Mayfair, London, said: "It's a sad fact that up to half of the UK is made up of ugly people yet amazingly nobody has ever thought of providing a dating service for them.
Hope

"Some of these will be moderately ugly, but others will have fallen from the ugly tree and hit every branch on their way down.
"Just because they don't look like Kate Moss or Cheryl Cole doesn't mean they don't have a lot of love to give and we're scooping up these people and offering them a glimmer of hope - in many cases their first and only opportunity of meeting a member of the opposite sex."
Almost 1,500 members have signed up since the site, which is free to join, went live on Monday morning.
Potential members are vetted on application to ensure the 'quality' of daters — that is, that they are all ugly — and to prevent attractive people from signing up.

Recent members include Scott from Plymouth — who tips the scales at almost 25st — and 'Loveable Lindsey' from York.

Both are yet to find a partner.
Mr James, also the founder of casual dating site Forgetdinner.co.uk, said: "Our site allows people who aren't attractive to engage in the dating game without fear of of ridicule for being ugly or excessively overweight.
"By doing this they might actually find a compatible partner - instead of spending years paying for dating sites they have no hope on."

I feel bad for people who actually have low enough selfesteem to sign up for that site. Ugly to me is honestly a personality thing. Even people who are deformed are beautiful in their own ways. Everyone has different tastes to this sites moderators you could be too pretty but to someone else you could be the ugliest person they have ever laid eyes on.

@Mindi: I agree. I've known some of the prettiest people - and they have just the worst personalities.

haha, wow. I would be half tempted to try and sign up to see if I'd be "accepted" lol. And then would be totally gutted if they were all YEAH Great, you're ACCEPTED! Welcome to the site :)

@Sarah* that though crossed my mind aswell. What if I felt I was reasonably attractive and then got accept by the website, would that suggest that I wasn't attractive. I think my (already shakey) self esteem would plumet.

Haha that's amusing! I got accepted to beautifulpeople.com the other month but then realised it's a pay site god dammit! I don't understand why dating sites are pay. But anyhoo that's another rant! On the other hand, I didn't get accepted to darwindating.com. My conclusion was that Darwin Dating is primarily an American site and Beautiful People is mainly a European site. Apparently I am not to Americans' taste! ;D But I found it interesting, that divide.

What I should have added to that post was, I wonder if such a divide exists between 'ugly' people from different continents?

I don't know what I'd call ugly. I just know it when I see it. I don't tend to notice ugly people anyway (unless they are like obscenely obese). I'm so shallow that the second I see a remotely good looking guy I can't think of anything else. I am known amongst my friends to stop talking mid conversation when I see an attractive person ;D

From what I've heard, internet dating works for older people i.e. post-divorce 30's-and-on, but not so much for the younger generation. As for "ugly dating," it's all a matter of what's aesthetically pleasing to the average individual. It is rather cruel to charge an individual $40+ a month for access to a dating site, when by and large there's almost no likelihood of them getting a date, based on their looks (which is essentially to what an internet dating site boils down.)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What I consider beautiful could be different for the next person. I guess you have your general "pretty" that is universal but it's a persons personality that makes them.
