Suck on ice chips to help the pain and swelling... and as for food.. stick with soft things, like jello. it will take a couple days to be able to eat normal food.. the peircer didn't tell you this? Normally they do.

I ate Burger King chicken fries. I also had a lot of soup, like tomato, or wonton soup with lots of broth. I also drank a lot of water and juice. Ice chips are also great, which other people have already said. Oh! No rice, or anything little like that. Makes things difficult.

I feel your pain, I have been there!

I was recommended to use Listerine diluted with water, about three times a day (but I did it more). The original flavour. Tastes like ass but it seems to help the pain and the healing process.

I lived on soups for the first week. That and small squares of sandwiches. It will take you about a half hour to eat it but just take it slow. You will get used to the feel of it eventually!

Ice and popsicles were my savior the first 2-3 days after I had mine pierced. Mashed potatoes, applesauce, that kind of thing. And ibuprofen for the pain. It gets better ;).

I took advil, and that helped A LOT! I did suck on ice constantly for the first 3 hours or so, and that was REALLY helpful with swelling. After about 12-16 hours, I was fine. Eating like normal.
I really miss my tongue ring! Being a public school teacher, I had to take it out.

The first few days were pretty rough.. it didn't hurt but trying to eat did. I had to learn to eat differently. Stick to easy foods like yogurt, jello, pudding, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese.. that type of thing. ALSO, I used a pro-health rinse instead of listerine.. it helped immensely. :) I think it had no alcohol in it. That helped a lot. Like the others said, ibuprofen/advil really helps and ice and lots of water. :)

They say to avoid dairy because the dairy can aid in setting up infection in the piercing. I was told by my piercing shop to avoid dairy, but I know other shops that don't say that... so.. I have no clue, lol.

Apparently dairy can cause thrush and that's more painful than the piercing itself.

My best friend ate cheese for a week because it was the only thing that didnt hurt she said. My husband ate normally, it depends on how high your pain tolerance is.

I drank lots of slurpees (cause they were cold and soft), pudding (cold and soft), jello. Ugh. Attempted to eat ramen noodles but the damn things kept wrapping around my piercing so avoid ramen noodles. That shit hurts like hell!

I ate popcicles, mashed potatoes, jello...stuff like that. Stick with soft foods, suck on ice, it helps the swelling. Mine only swelled for a couple days but it depends on the person but my main food was ice cream and mashed potatoes.

I would keep ice in my mouth right on the piercing. The pain only last two days, if that for mine and felt fine after. I usually just ate soup that had super tiny noodles, nothing that would hook around the barbel, or something that I didn't really have to chew. Stuff that I could just swallow.

I guess it depends. After I had gotten my tongue pierced the piercer told me not to eat anything until breakfast the next day... I went home and ate an omelet. Yea, I'm an ass like that. I also was lucky enough to have barely any swelling and pain. The most annoying thing was learning how to eat without chomping down on the ball! I ate lots of salads.... once I learned how to not get the fork stuck on it ;).

I would suggest picking up some non-iodized salt and gargling some warm salt water. That will help with the healing process. Eat lots of pudding cups and jell-o until you can move to more 'complicated' foods. :) Good luck.

No, the guy didn't tell me what I could eat. He just told me to use listerine. And if I had any questions to call him.
I've been living on mashed potatos and ice cream.
But yesterday the gland in my throat started swelling. It hurts so bad. Worse than my tongue. My tongue doesn't hurt as much anymore. But its still swollen. When will that go away? And any clue why my throat is swollen and sore?
