As a rule, I don't because the internet is full of shit. However, I met someone off Bloop coz she happened to live in the town I was celebrating my birthday in, so came along. I'm planning to meet up with a couple of LJ/bloop friends this summer though.

I've met a few lj friends; as long as caution is taken I don't think it's wrong but ppl need to be careful.

I've met a lot of people online including fitness friends and my boyfriend of 2 years. The thing is, though, that I always told my parents the exact details and always collected and relayed enough information so that if something terrible did happen, at least they'd be able to catch who did it (i.e. first/last name, yr/make/model of the vehicle, license plate number, location we were expected to be, when I was going to be home etc.). I always insisted on a public location and always had my cell phone with me.

do you consider talking on the phone real life?

I consider anythng you do while you're alive, a part of your real life. because that's what it is.

I cannot *stand* talking on the phone. I actually have a phobia of it.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only girl who can't stand talking on the phone. I don't know why, but I get way shy when I'm on the phone... doesn't matter who I'm talking to.

I met one of my best friends online (on OD, although we both moved to Bloop shortly afterwards) and I flew to Canada to visit her 2 years ago, and she's coming the UK to visit me later this year!

I've met another 4 or 5 people from Bloop before though, and will be meeting another three in a couple of weeks when I'm in America. That said, I've only met people who I've known online for several years first, and always in a public place.

I've tried online dating too, and have met a few guys in person, but again, always in public, and they've all been pretty normal, although nothing major has ever come of it.

Online dating makes me really nervous. The idea of talking online and then meeting each other after a few days just kinda makes me twitch in a bad way. XD

I met my husband on myspace. He sent me a message on myspace and offered to take me out and I'm always looking to be given stuff for free. lol. Turned out to be a super nice guy (still is and loves buying me presents). I met my best friend G off of TOD. She was in Vegas and we met up downtown. Sadly that was like, 6 years ago and we haven't seen each other since! :( I also met Ang (cokeadot) and she's a sweetie pie. I *heart* her and she's a blast to hang out with. I even met Tommy because they're kind of a package deal. lol. I've also met a bunch of friends and dates online. I don't think it's taboo to do the whole internet thing. My job means me sitting at someone's house with their kids all day. I take online courses. It's extremely hard to meet friends in that situation. As long as you're safe and you have a stun gun, you should be good! :) -Vanessa

Oh boy...let's just say I've met hundreds of people online...not in public, at my house or theirs. BUT...they were always people I had been talking to for months, sometimes YEARS before meeting...sometimes they lied about who they were, sometimes they didn't...I have not had a serious bad experience though. Now that I have my son, I would not meet anyone from online anywhere except in public.

I have simple criteria for meeting someone from online. She has to be 21+ and extremely attractive. And within convenient driving distance. And also, bring tacos.

I'm thinking she'd always have at least 1 taco w/ her.

Not necessarily always have tacos with her... but the first time we meet, she needs to bring tacos. Oh, and Wawa brand diet green tea.

When meeting online friends in person, there are a couple of guidelines to follow. Those closest to me (mom, etc) met them at the same time, knew of the meeting beforehand, etc. I prefer to talk to them on the phone first. Meet in a public place....

In a phrase, I do so in an un-stupid manner.

All my experiences have been positive, and it's probably because I won't meet with anyone without following the aforementioned steps.

I met my ex sort of online. He was my friend's friend, and that's how we hit it off. We first started talking on the phone, then online. Our relationship was mostly an online thing because he was 8 years older and in the Army. We made future plans though, and I met him once in Jackson when he came to see me. I could only spend the day with him though, as I was 15 and he was 23 (spare me the bitching, please, I was dumb and in love at 15). I brought my two friends with me though, as I would never go see someone I didn't know alone.

Back when I first started on the internet, MySpace and such didn't exist. I had quite a few online boyfriends, but I never made the effort to meet any of them. I knew what was safe and what wasn't, even then.

I've met Steve and Kelly, but that's because they live near me. I've had good experiences with meeting people online, but I'm still cautious.
