I say, if you don't want to be a father, wear a condom or get sterilized. The child is yours now, so pay up.

I think I'm with Whoopi on this one. He didn't want it either, so he should be able to sign off on the responsibility. But I do think they both should have taken steps to prevent pregnancy if they didn't want a child. Rob and I both don't want children right now, and I'm on the pill and he still uses condoms. It's a team effort for planned parenthood lol.

He said he didn't want a kid, but he did knock her up. Consequences to every action, I suppose. It would be a shock to the guy to find out she had the kid, but he can give up his parental rights. Mind you, in some states they still make you pay child support, but he would have no ties to the kid. But, in the end- she decided to keep the kid, she should be the only one paying for the kid.

If he didn't want kids, he should have insisted on protection. If he didn't want to do that, oh well. It isn't like he didn't realize this could happen. It all ready did. They were really stupid...Too bad for him, pay up.

Takes two to make a baby... both are responsible regardless if they "want" to be or not.

Takes two to make a child, but it also takes two to make a decision about bringing up the child. He wasn't involved in the decision, to me, he shouldnt have to pay up, unless he wants to be involved with the child, which in the end I think he will anyways. The view are a bunch of old feminists hags anyways, of course they are going to go for the girl.
Interesting to know if she even lets the guy have rights to the kid.
In the end, bad luck buddy, pay up.

not sure if anyones mentioned this, but ironically, there's been an episode of Boston Legal, that was centered around this matter. I kinda feel that if she knew he didn't want a kid, she should kinda expect that he wouldn't want to support it. Regardless of him having sex with her again. She knew. But as the courts are now, guys pretty much don't have a say in if a woman should carry their potential child. Even if he's clearly stated that he has no intentions of having a child with this woman.

I dont know if he should have a say in whether or not she carries the child, because it opens a whole new can of worms, but I do not think he should be forced to support a child that was clearly not wanted.

The law says he has to pay.

If I were ruler of the world:

both parents have to consent to an abortion, or you don't get one.

one abortion is all anyone gets, the second one- you get an abortion, but you are also made sterile.

Something..similar happened to two people I was friends with in highschool. She was sort of...infamous for pregnancy scares - sort of like crying wolf every time she had sex, drove some us insane - it was pretty much like she was trying to get pregnant at 15. ANYWAY flash forward a few years, everyone thought she was on B/C because she was very vocal about it - she had been dating my other friend for a few years, she told him she was on B/C, he was clear he didn't want kids - but what do ya know - she gets pregnant and says "whoops, forgot to tell you, I was never on any b/c". He didn't want it - she had it anyway, and now SURPRISE - 40% of his paycheck goes to child support. Now - YES it takes two to tango, but that whole situation made me realise that guys pretty much have very little say in situations like that. I mean this girl was a head case from day one of high school, I guess it's his own fault for getting involved with her really........but I mean still - it made me think of OTHER people in world who fall into similar situations. I guess it just sucks for guys some of the time just because courts...side with the women (not all the time, don't bite my head off for that) Overall, I think I have a little bit of sympathy for the guys, but I do realise it takes two to tango. Argh my internet time is nearly up and I have so much more I just thought about!! Damnit.

I think - if i were ever in that situation..I got pregnant to a guy who was CLEAR from the BEGINING that he didn't want a child - i wouldn't expect child support from him...but at the same time - I hope he doesn't expect visitation and I'd get him to sign away his rights..after all - he didn't want it! But thats just me :)

*please tell me i replied to the thread and not specifically to one person..ever since that issue last week, I've been a little worried hehe*

Let me sum it up for you - Some ridiculous idea (either Dr Phil, but more likely an Australia 'law' that was never put forward because people thought it was stupid) that women should carry contracts for men to sign. I've decided to start carrying one...had my own questions planned...oh so hillarious. Post lost. End of discussion.

This happened to my brother... g/f lied about about being on BC, got pregnant and it came out that she wasnt... of course, too late. She has done it twice to two different guys. And it's sad. My brother supports his child though even though initially he wanted her to have an abortion. She gave him no choice. At the end of the day I think she should be shot. But kudos to my bro for standing up and taking on his responsibility.

What she did was wrong. He had no say what so ever... which is sad. That being said, if he didn't learn from the FIRST TIME then more fool him for being an idiot and not wearing protection or taking better precautions.

I think there's a difference between couples who have sex using protection and it fails and women who trick men into babymaking. I think if you're both not using anything, are aware that you're not using anything, then you're effectively trying for a baby. It's a shame the guy has no choice, but he knew (and if he and/or she didn't then they really should be forced to get moron tattooed on their forehead) that sex without using anything can lead to babies, it's not a great secret.
If as a man you're tricked into fathering then you should be able to sign away your rights, but I mean all rights, you don't pay but you also have no say in the child's future, no seeing the kid etc.

I think for other cases though there should be a lot more help, and perhaps compulsory meetings, to get the mother and father talking, and making agreements before the kid is born/aborted. The system atm is far too biased for the mother. Unless there's abuse or something along those lines then the father should certainly be informed as soon as the pregnancy is confirmed by someone in the medical profession, so they can involve themselves as much or as little as they want, and so they know what's going on.

I think that 1.) She should have told him and not just ran, and had the baby... She said she didnt want one, and so did he...! to me it seems like a trap, now she can get child support for this child, that neither of them wanted... 2.) I believe it should be his choice, because she never gave him that right, nor let him know she was pregnant just up and left him... THan boom 9 months later, sue for child support, he never knew she was pregnant...!
2.) Why this time did she decided to keep the baby...? She was fine before to abort and now she disappears and has a baby...! Really dont like that...
3.) Me and my husband talked about aborting our daughter, when I just found out I was pregnant, our son was only 4 months old, and honestly even the doctor knew it would be a hard hard pregnancy if we went thorugh...! We both said we were okay with aborting, but one day I finally told him that I cant do it, thinking he would respond in but we need too...! ANd he didnt he decided that he didnt want too either... So we kept her, and she is amazing...!
So I dont understand why she didnt just talk to him about this, he would have been more prepared than just sueing for paperwork...!
I hate the worthless mothers, we have custody of my husbands two other kids becuase of their mother, he had to pay child support of $450 a month, and she doesnt have to pay a PENNY...! So honestly I think it is a game, and if she would have talked to him at first things may have been different...

Very simple, kill both of the parents and put the baby up for adoption to a family that won't suck.

Maybe I'm just weird, but even when I'm on B/C, with new sex partners I ALWAYS use a condom.

My husband-to-be and I don't use condoms anymore, but that's because he KNOWS for a FACT that I've been on birth control for over two years (has to be a minimum of three months though), AND we've had the "WHAT IF WE GET PREGNANT?" discussion.

Before those things happen, I don't see a reason to have sex without a condom. Ever.

Am I missing something?
