I'm torn between thinking people are disgusting for letting their 7 year old kids dress like this, and impressed at the fact that they really can dance. Opinions?:

My niece has been in a dance company (you can dance all you want, but to be in company, you have to be the elite) since she was 5 years old and this IS what they teach them. She's now coming up on 9 years old and that girl CAN dance. The sad thing is, is this is how you have to dance if you want to get anywhere doing it. Her company NEVER dresses her THAT risque, BUT if kids are very interested in continuing a true interest in dance, they have to do the dances brought to them (which are, usually, something of this nature). Not that I'm saying a 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 year old can say they want to dance the rest of their life and mean it, but she has been dancing for 4 years and dance is her life. There isn't a moment of the day that she isn't dancing (she even dances when she walks) and to take dance away from her would crush her. Not that any member of our family exactly AGREES with the dance moves (it IS insane that they teach 7 year olds to do these things!), but her happiness at this point is very meaningful. ALSO, this was done at a DANCE COMPETITION which is NEVER supposed to be recorded (they don't even record these things on DVD for parents) and brought onto the internet or TV. Also, there is nothing wrong with the song played. I don't see them bumping and grinding to a song about sex and drugs, and to be honest, I've seen a LOT of 'sexier' dances than that done by kids. The only real problem I have with it is the costumes. NO 7 year old should EVER, EVER, EVER be dressed like that. Ever. In the 4 years my niece has danced, her stomach has NEVER showed at more than an inch.

Are you a parent, though? That's my question. It seriously boggles my mind and seriously is disturbing to me that you see that video and other than the clothing, think there is nothing wrong with how those little girls are dancing on stage.

It isn't because they are flexible and can bend and move - it's more so the ADULT LIKE MOVES that these girls are doing. The clip around 1:46 seconds? That is STRIPPER dancing, CLUB DANCING - not cute little 8 year old kid dancing... completely different and completely unacceptable in it's own different way.

Who cares if it wasn't intended to be recorded? These little girls are dancing like this, know how to dance like this and I can assure you that they will dance like this outside of the dance competition!

There are things that make my 8 year old happy - like riding her bike in the street, staying up past her bed time, eating junk food, etc, etc - all of which could be potentially harmful to her, but isn't "that serious" and it seriously ticks her off when I won't let her do these things. However, as her PARENT -- *I* make the calls based on what is GOOD for her at her age.

I would NEVER allow my daughter to dance like this. This is border line on child pornography and I bet there are a lot of happy pedophiles out there watching that video.

Exactly, as YOUR child's parent, YOU make the calls on what is good for HER. My sister-in-law, as MY nieces parents, makes the calls on what is good for HER. Just as the 50 other kids in my nieces company have parents that make decisions for them, and the 50 kids who are in soccer (or whatever else that you consider "safe") have parents who make decisions for them.

No, I am not a parent. I never claimed to be a parent. Maybe it's because I know a lot of people in it and I see it daily. It doesn't make these parents bad parents because they let their kids dance. It just flat out doesn't. There are MILLIONS of kids dancing like this, which would make MILLIONS of terrible parents. Just because YOUR kid doesn't do it doesn't make you the be all and end of all great parenting, nor does it make my sister-in-law the be all and end all of bad parenting FOR letting her kid do it.

The song isn't bad. The dance isn't great, but it isn't the worst one either. The costumes are TERRIBLE. You're right, there probably ARE a lot of happy pedophiles out there watching that video, BECAUSE someone broke competition rules and recorded this and put it on the internet. I've already stated my niece walks around dancing 24/7, so yes, OF COURSE they're going to dance like that outside of competitions, too. I'm not an idiot who thinks that she keeps it strictly on the dance floor. Then again, if someone is jerking off to a 7 year old dancing, there's something TERRIBLY wrong with them in the first place.

I'm not saying that those parents are AWFUL parents. I didn't mean to come off like that. I just meant it was bad judgement on their parts. I am just the type of parent that believes that little girls should STAY little girls for as long as possible, and by allowing them to dance & act like this... there's no way they are going to stay little girls forever.

Another girl said it perfectly.. at that age, I would imagine them going to dance concerts in fairy costumes, or mickey and minnie costumes.... not lingerae.

I understand that certain types of dance are more conservative - but as a parent, I just can't see allowing this and clapping and condoning it =\ I would have yanked my daughter out of that class as soon as I saw my daughter practicing this.

Now, I don't think it contributes to teen pregnancy, but I think it makes these girls more "aware" of things that they shouldn't be aware of.

Believe me, I AGREE with you. I think it's far too provocative and quite frankly SAD that competitive dancing for 7 year olds has come to THIS. Their costumes are most inappropriate and the parents judgement to condone their kids wearing what can only be described as lingerie is definitely bad.

I also agree that it's a parenting choice. It's a choice you have to make and it's a parents choice how bad they let it get. Like I said, my niece has never worn something as provocative and showing as that, and I think if it CAME to that, a lot of parents here (I live in a small country town in Tennessee) would pull their kids out of dance for it. It's all going to boil down to parenting choices.

I really don't want to come off as if I think it's awesome that 7 year olds are dancing this way, because I don't. I just think it's silly that this one particular group and dance is being put on and it isn't just them. It's every dance company, everywhere. It's how it IS these days, whether or not we think it should be.

I believe that it's not illegal in Australia to record competitions... Well, frowned up, but I think the companies record it for the families to buy. What happens after that is... well, probably what happened with that vid.

I was in dance since I was 5 too. We competed at state competitions & everything and we never danced or dressed like that. You don't have to dance or dress like that to be a good dancer at that age. What's sad is so many kids are lead to believe that you have to dance provocatively to be successful. But tell that to the many trophies & medals I have hanging on my wall from competitions we won.

And I've said this before. That's how it was when WE danced, 15 years ago. That ISN'T how it is now. I didn't make the rules, I didn't raise the bar, I didn't start the costumes or dances of today. I just know that's how it is.

Yes, they can dance. And they are very good at it.

But what parent, in their right fucking mind dresses their child up to look like a damn HOOKER and flaunt themselves around and dance like that?!
So whilst they can dance, it does not make it right. It is disgusting and it's basically saying "Here, look at my daughter, I've taught her to dress and dance like a slut and she's 7, hooray!"
IT'S NOT RIGHT.
It's basically inviting pedo's to come and have a good perve and ENCOURAGING their behaviour.

Fucking sick. Those parents should be SHOT.

Oh and well done Beyonce, you've taught a new generation to dance provocatively and way too old for their age.

Haha, not (just) Beyonce's fault. xD That's just the song they chose to dance to. xD

There's also Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga... I could go on. xD

I'm pretty sure 7 yr olds aren't Beyonce's target audience. Same goes for Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Lady Gaga. It's the parents responsibility to monitor what the kid is watching/listening to.

My niece, Layla, is a very good example of this. Just recently she told her parents that she wished she had a new "mean" mommy that would come and kill her current mommy (my sister) to teach her a lesson. Apparently she's been watching a lot of violence and hate on T.V. and came to the conclusion that it was okay. She just barely turned 4 yrs old. My sister blames television for what happened, but it's not the fault of the television and what's on it... it's her OWN fault for not monitoring her daughter.

Same goes to the parents of these 7 yr old girls dancing all slutty. The parents are the ones that should know better.

I remember when I first learnt to dance. I Remember my very first costumes as well. First was my ballerina uniform, pink leotard, black skirt, pink long sleeve cardigan, pink tights and ballet shoes. My second and third outfits were a bit more unforuntate, Number two was a teddy bear costume - and yes before anyone asks - I was dancing to the song "Teddy Bears picnic" and third, but more unfortunately - big bird, yes, I had to dress up like a little yellow bird and dance along to the theme from sesame street. It was made even more embarassing when we had to do a local parade dressed like that.

Ok enough dredging up of repressed memories. WHAT THE BLOODY HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE KIDS PARENTS? There is no way that can be considered acceptable. I admit, they are great dancers, but they are far to young to be learning moves like that, they are far too young be dressing like that. There's that issue between kids wearing high heels and so forth, I'm of the opinion that there's a fine line between playing dress up and just being inappropriate. I'm all for dress up - but these girls are not playing dress up. It's sad that not one parent had an issue with this? They let their daughters dress and dance like that? I'm not a fan of this AT ALL. I think this overstepped the line of whats appropriate. I think the thing is, when I have kids, I want them to be raised it a wholesome - I don't want them with cellphones at...6 years old, I don't want them going to the movies by themselves until a certain age, etc etc - but thats how I was raised and I want to keep that upbringing for my kids because - I don't know - i just think thats the way it should be?

I'm always the minority in this, so I'm not going to GIVE my opinion simply because I don't feel like being torn to pieces by the crowd of biznatches we tend to have here. But I will say that I think it's the parenting. Not the music, not the way the dress, not how they dance. QUIT blaming it on that. That's all I hear when people say that "I don't want to take the blame if MY daughter dresses like that." NO. Bullshit. TELL her she won't dress like that. Explain to her from a young age that dancing like that is for dance class only. It doesn't have to be a gateway.

I'm sorry but I will never buy in this "rap music made him abusive" "dance class made my daughter a whore" "video games made them go on a killing spree" crap. It's c op-out for shit parenting in my opinion. *Shrugs*

It's the same with junk food really. McDonalds isn't making kids fat, they aren't forcing products down kids throats, it's that parents allow them to eat it. But thats a WHOOOOLLE other arugement.

(I've been playing grand theft auto since I was 14....I have no desire drive over people, steal cars, kill people, steal their money etc etc)
