I've had the top of my left ear pierced since I was 18 years old. Past year or so i rarely even wore a earring or anything in it. Well tonight i decided to put one in and had to repierce the back of it. I was wondering if anyone ever had to do that?

If you have how long did it take it heal? Did it take it long?

I don't have cartilage pierced, but I have had to do that to my ear lobe before. It took around a week for it to feel normal again, but I'm assuming cartilage will take longer.

That's a really good way to get a rejection scar. Repiercing causes scar tissue to build up, and you'll get a yucky bump. It happened to me with my cartilage twice.

Just keep an eye on it. If it starts to feel like a small bump, take the earring out or you'll get a weird scar!

It's always had a bump on it when i first had it pierced but it healed fine. Only part i had to repierce was the skin not the cartilage itself.

it's pretty common for piercings to start to close after a period without jewelry. oral piercings are the worst for that - my old lip ring would close up in a matter of twenty to thirty minutes. :-/ treat it like a new piercing, with salt soaks etc, and it should heal up in half or so of the original healing time.

I've been reading that your suppose to soak it with sea salt but i have none that and dont have a store around me that does have it..i read to wash it with dial soap or soak it with regular salt?

Its really sore. Defently because my hair keeps hitting it. I kept tryin to lay on that ear lastnight too. I'm glad i didnt have to repierce the whole thing.

You could go to a piercing place and get hold of some H20cean or the equivalent. Basically it's this pre-mixed salt solution - all you need to do is apply it.

don't use regular salt. it has chemicals added to keep it from clumping that can further irritate the piercing. a lot of piercers recommend dial - i personally hate it, but if you're going to use it, make sure once a day is the most.

if you can get ahold of the h2ocean mentioned above, it's pretty decent. any piercer ought to carry something you can use.

Agreed. Go to a piercing place and get some H20 (you can order it online too but it's a bit more expensive because of S&H) and some regular stores also carry sea salt that you can use. You can also try to find Dr. Browner's soap which really helps with the healing.

If you're unsure about using any of the soaps like Dial, call your local piercer (that is certified) and ask them what is best to use.

Oh, and something else you can do...when you shower, stand on the side where you have your piercing and let the warm water rinse it (don't touch it, just let the water go around your piercing area) and it should help a bit.

I don't have a cartilage piercing, but if I go a long while without wearing earrings, I usually have to repierce it myself. It shouldn't take too long to heal, just take care of it.
