Once you get a chance to check it out, I would like what it is if you don't mind. I'm so glad I started this thread, but now I have many great choices!

yes it is. but make sure you dont just buy the body, you need the lens too. (I'm sure you know that, just hate to think that you'd accidently do that. I almost did.)

I love it. It's my favorite possession and it's absolutely fabulous. And canon is just the bomb. I'm a canon snob, I've had a lot of difficulty with nikon cameras and tech support.

Plus, if you ever get really serious and decide to start buying lenses, canon, by far, has the best lenses. It's not debatable.

I dunno. My friend uses a nikon and she takes some really AMAZING shots.

I used to have one *not as fancy as hers, just one of those little coolpix ones* Got some decent shots, but wasn't going for "professional. " hehe

I have a Sony DSC-W300 It's a 13.6 megapixel. I absolutely love it. It's got the smile capture all you gotta do is focus it in and as soon as someone smiles it takes the picture. Works awesome with my neices who try to hide from me and giggle the whole time. It takes good pics.

It's down to $329. Here's the website, I'm not good at making the link so you'll just have to copy and paste it. I absolutely love it. My last entry has some pics that I took with it also. It takes really good pics.

If you're looking for a simple point and shoot, I have a Sony Cybershot 7.2 megapixel that is love. It's small and lightweight, a great size for me. It has tons of neat features on it including macro (to take up close shots of smaller things, like rings), face recognition, SteadyShot (steadies shots from a shaky hand), a "burst" mode which will take up to 100 pictures one right after another in say a sporting event that you can't just keep clicking yourself, four color modes (including the standard black and white and sepia modes), etc. The price now is $180, but was over $200 when I got mien. Click to see the specs of it on Best Buy's website. It's a very good, decently priced point and shoot.

Of course if you're looking for more professional qualities, an SLR is the way to go. My mother-in-law got a Nikon D60 SLR for Christmas that I would recommend. It is $600, and can also be seen here on Best Buy's website. It's 10.2 megapixels, also has a burst mode (where with the point and shoot it is about 1.5 FPS, the SLR is 3 FPS), has 6 color modes AND 6 color/special effect modes, movie capability, text input, etc.
