I did the same. I like having buddies! (this is Arby's fiction on my regular diary, BTW).

Day 3....how's everyone getting on? Managed 1600 words day one, only 300 yesterday as I was tired, so hopefully whack out a load this afternoon to make up for yesterday and to do today's writing too!

I'm doing 75K instead of 50K, and for day 3, I've got just over 7800 words. Tomorrow is a full day for me, but I'm supposed to reach 10K to stay on track. Don't know if I will... I'm hoping, though.

Best thing I can think of to do is to go on the Nano site and visit the DARES thread, and get some ideas there. Or just start in a random place later on in the story..?

I'm only at 4,083 or something right now. I plan on writing a couple thousand tonight and bit tomorrow. I'll probably write little to none on Saturday and nearly all day on Sunday. Nights and weekends are my best friends when it comes to writing.

OH! Has everyone seen this site?
You basically pick a time (like 15 minutes), a number of words (say, 300), and it gives you a little box, and you type until the time is up or you reach your word goal. If you stop typing for a length of time, it will start making noise or something (depending on what level you choose. I think the "kamikaze" level actually deletes your writing).
You can pause the timer, but only once.
It's very fun if you need a bit of a push to get writing - and it works for nano when really the word count is more important than content.

I just discovered that website! I've been using it this afternoon to up my word count. I wanted to download the desktop version but you have to pay for it, darn!

The dares thread on NaNoWriMo that you linked to is cracking me up. Brilliant!

I know, I wanted the desktop, too. If it's worth, I might put it as a birthday gift to myself.... not for Nano, though.

The dares are fun, but I haven't actually used any this year. They work well if you are not doing as serious of a novel, and don't mind putting in things that might not make sense.

So i got to 4,400 words, decided my story was a load of drivel and have started a new one. So far I'm at 1515 words with it, and hope to be at 3000 by the end of this evening. There's more depth, structure, and reality to i. I haven't deleted the previous story, but it's just a load of tosh in comparison. How's everyone else doing?

I've done that before. Two years in a row I planned out my nanos months in advance, wrote on those stories for about two days, and then scrapped the entire thing in favor of a completely new one. I ended up winning both years, so it's worth a try!
I'm at 17500 right now. I haven't had a chance to get ahead, since I've been staying up the past few nights until 10 before midnight, furiously writing to get my daily quota done.

I was going to do this but I tend to write better when I write as it comes. So every few days I'll write a scene or two... hardly enough to hit the minimum! A friend of mine and I started private livejournals and post there so critique each other.
