Well that was just unnecessary. I don't believe in the power or prayer or any of that but that was completely uncalled for.

Seriously, you may not believe in this stuff, but please have some respect for those who do. Particularly in a thread for people who are concerned about friends or family who may be dying or hurting.

I bet you'd be the first to jump in if a Christian tried to convince an athiest of the power of prayer. So if you expect Christians to respect your beliefs, surely they deserve some respect in return.

Honestly, I can't believe some people.

Even if prayer doesn't help in the traditional way people think it does, I think it does help people by allowing them to remain hopeful and positive during difficult times. It gives them inner strength and a good mindset to face their adversities and overcome them. Some people find strength in believing that there is something bigger than them out there; whether or not you or I or anyone else thinks that such a being exists is not of importance.

Prayer acts similarly to the placebo effect observed in many cases, so I agree with you, it does help for those that believe.

LOL. I didn't post it to be "low", this it a PUBLIC thread & I posted MY opinion. I don't believe in prayer, it's a joke to me. I didn't mean to offend anyone tho, honest. :-/

But this thread wasn't a discussion on prayer. It was people asking others to pray for friends and family who are in serious trouble. People are asking for prayers for family members who are DYING! Does that seem like a joking matter to you? Do you find it funny that people want to do something, anything to help the people they love? If so, then you have a sick sense of humour. For you to barge in here and try and be funny (which you weren't) and imply that they're idiots for believing in prayer, that IS offensive.

I thought the picture was funny but it was distasteful to post it in this particular thread. Somewhere else, and it would have elicited a completely different response.

Exactly. She seems to be completely unaware of how posting something like that in THIS thread could be offensive.

Megan, you may want to start this thread over and ask a mod/admin to delete this. A well-intentioned thread completely derailed by idiocy and rudeness.

My husband just found out that his little brother died. He's on the phone with his sister right now. Please keep him in your prayers. His Dad just died a few months back, and now this.

While an atheist, my grandmother continues to deteriorate after her battle with cancer, and while clean as of right now, her body is pretty much fucked after the chemo and both lungs cut in half.
