How come you guys call it a theatre and not a cinema? Isn't a theatre where you go to see live performances and not films?! Haha there are so many differences in words between our countries, amuses me!

I haven't been to the cinema since the last Harry Potter because it is just so overpriced! I remember when going there used to be a cheap date haha!

I don't know. That's just what it's called here. I call live performances "plays" but I don't know if the rest of the US does, it might just be a southern thing.

And I just realized how stupid that sounded. I call the PLACE we go to for "plays" the collesium instead of the "theater".

It's both. You can say "I'm going to the theatre," or "I'm going to the cinema" or "I'm going to the movies."
When it comes to plays, because it's much more of a rare occurance, you'd say: "I'm going to a play," or "I'm going to the theatre to see a play." You'd probably specify depending on the context.

I've very rarely heard anything called a cinema. If someone said that to me I would probably think they were going to one of those big 3D movies where the screen is on the ceiling.

Americans say theatre for either situation-seeing films or plays. I don't know why we don't say cinema. :-P

Well here, if your mobile phone provider is Orange (as mine is), they do something called 'Orange Wednesdays' and you get half priced tickets then, so I only ever go on Wednesdays!

We have 'cheap Tuesdays' in one of the cinemas around here too. It's normally £7 but on a Tuesday it's £5! lol

district 9 was good. and i've heard good things about Zombieland. But there really isn't a whole lot playing. I'm super psyched for where the wild things are, though :]

I saw another trailer for it on the t.v. but it wasn't that scary. This actually looks good. It probably won't play in my little podunk town though.
