besides alot of plus size girls are models and they are beautiful! most of the time better lookin than those anorexia style models! it sickens me when i see those skinny girls they are UGLY that also includes paris hilton, and nicole richie they look sick! big heads and small bodies

Yes, you are a proper plus size, yo! These models aren't. You need to be in the magazine instead.

when they say plus size, they don't mean obese, they mean plus size according to the fashion industry, which these women are.

These women wouldn't be plus size in the UK fashion industry. And our average size is lower than the American average size. So, gosh, like, practically everyone in the US must be plus size.

They would be plus size in the UK too. As far as the modelling industry goes, plus size in the UK starts at size 12 (American size 10).

In the US "plus size" is considered a 14+. I do like that these women arent afraid to show their what I'll assume is their post baby bellies. Not everyone can just shrink back down and have a flat stomach. I've had 3 kids and my stomach is far from flat lol.

The only thing I dont like is how they make plus size models a "special issue". They should be able to have an "assortment" of sizes that are throughout their magazines all of the time.

Well I guess that's what they are trying to start doing? This issue was just to commemorate the start of this "new" thing (although they've had Queen Latifah on the cover before, they've had the red-head in the magazine before, and they've done issues centered on different body types). They are going to show people of all sizes, I guess. I watched the editor of magazine do an interview on Ellen the other day, and she said that they are going to start showing a bigger array of body types.

I don't have the excuse of kids! Haha. I actually had people ask me how far along I was when I was 20+ pounds heavier than I am now. I think I almost died. >.>

Aha - then it is the same as in the UK. Here it is 16+, which is supposedly the same as American 14+.

Well, these women are not plus sizes then. They are not that size at all.

But that's plus-size in fashion terms, which is different to 'plus size' for the modelling industry. A woman can become a plus size model if she is size 12 (US 10) or above. But in stores, 'plus size' applies usually like you say to size 16 (US 14) or above.

Yes, yo - I know because you told me on my diary. But like, such articles should make it clear that they are using specialised terminology that has a different meaning from the general usage, or else you get the confusion that has been demonstrated here.

it makes me really sad to look at these women and think that anyone would consider them a plus size! they are all average size women, what REAL women look like! i get so sick of seeing these stick thin, ribs sticking out, models on tv and magazines... i am constantly comparing myself to that and i know that many other girls are too.... i was skinny before i was pregnant with my son, and i didnt realize it then, cause i saw all these girls who were skinnier then me, i wore a size 5 in juniors!!! now, i wear a size 13 after baby, i have a bigger butt, bigger hips and thighs, and i have a baby tummy that hangs over a little bit, all of which these girls have!!! seeing these pictures of AVERAGE REAL WOMEN naked make me feel about 1000000 times better about myself to know that these girls are gorgeous with clothes on, and without, they look just like ME! this was such a confidence booster to me and i hope that they really do start using more average size women and true plus sized women in magazines and on tv... teenage girls have enough to worry about in this world, not having to constantly try to be abnormally skinny, shouldnt be one of them.

but thanks for this posting, i almost wanna go pose naked now!

Have any of you seen the reality show called "More to Love"? it was like the Bachelor only with bigger, taller women. not ONE of the women were over 240 pounds, and a lot of them were over 6 ft. tall! Of course about 200 pounds is going to look fantastic on a 6 ft. woman, am I wrong? It pissed me off. I think they thought plus sized meant big boobs or just weight as a number? pfft.
Anyway, on the show it also said that the average America woman is a size 14. Well then...I'm a size 16-18 and I guess that just means I'm above average! HA! OWNED! :P

I was a size 11-12 in junior high school weighing 150 pounds and I was only 5' 3"! It's insane that they have been making clothes smaller and smaller, and not changing the size number. So yes, 12 is skinny to me as well.

I really appreciated seeing this. I'm four months post-partum after my first pregnancy, and I've lost all my baby weight. However, my stomach looks a lot like the first model's! I too felt deformed and ugly, but it's nice to know that it's actually normal. :) I felt okay before, but now I feel a bit more confident. These models are NOT fat, and to call them plus-size is crazy. I'm glad the models were featured though.

Christina I feel the same as you! I was talking to a doctor resident of mine and he actually said that some women will NEVER lose the baby pooch without surgery; even if they worked out 4 1/2 hours a day! So I guess unless your willing to do surgery some of us just need to learn to love our bodies!

I have come to accept my little "lap-over" as I call it. The only thing that will help it is time by what my doctor said. It's just from the stretching of our skin & the abodomenal muscles being torn while pregnant. It's getting a lot better though. I can actually feel my abs tightening up underneath now!!
