The only thing I can say is that Stephanie Meyer is not the only one guilty of using the same five words/phrases over and over. Anyone ever read anything by Meg Cabot? "I mean" is used about every two sentences.

NO, YO - BUT I READ A FEW SWEET VALLEY HIGH BOOKS BACK IN THE DAY, AND READ MANY TIMES ABOUT THE TWINS' 'AQUAMARINE EYES', YO!

AND BARBARA TAYLOR BRADFORD LIKES THE EXPRESSION 'HER HEART CLENCHED'.

OF COURSE LOTS OF AUTHORS HAVE THEIR FAVOURITE WORDS AND PHRASES, YO! ITS PAR FOR THE COURSE WITH THE POPULAR SERIES TYPE AUTHORS. AND GOSH, I THINK EVEN SHAKESPEARE USES THE WORD 'THE' QUITE A BIT! ;D

I used to read the Sweet Valley High Books, way back before I was even in Middle school, let alone higher education.

For Meg, her characters literally say "I mean" in almost every sentence.

For Stephanie, we get lots of "liquid Topaz eyes" and someone is always thinking/saying/doing something with Chargin

I LOVED SWEET VALLEY HIGH!! Haha every book had a description of how they looked, and I never got fed up of them ;D

I read them when I was about 11 and I remember they were in the 14+ section of my library... quite sad!

I figured I'd post it even though
I'm very disappointed in the books right now
because of the last one.
It was horrible, I thought.

I think it's hilarious that people say Stephenie Meyer's books suck because they don't like the way she writes. Obviously Twilight is by no means literary genius, but that doesn't mean it's shit either. It was a good way for me to escape my shitty day at work and just kick back and relax. It was interesting and I did enjoy reading it. I do not enjoy this movie business. I will not see any twilight movies. EVER.

Back to what I was going to say: There are a lot of people that dislike Ernest Hemingway because he mostly writes in short choppy sentences. So does that mean that The Sun Also Rises is a horrible book because someone doesn't like reading books written that way? BULLSHIT. The Sun Also Rises was fucking fantastic, plus I love that Hemingway writes with short choppy sentences. My thoughts on dear Ernie H are beside the point now. The real point is, just because you don't like a particular writing style or what it's about doesn't mean that book is crap. I fucking HATED with all of my heart Conrad's Heart of Darkness (all aspects of it), and even though reading that shit for class was pure torture, I still understand why it is one of the classics and why other people love it so much.

WELL, GOSH, YOU NEVER KNOW - IN THE FUTURE, THE TWILIGHT BOOKS MIGHT BE HAILED AS CLASSICS, RIGHT UP THERE WITH ERNEST HEMINGWAY! ;D

Don't even joke about it!

I don't think it's just down to the writing style; it's about the half formed, whiny, unlikeable characters too. How could an author create two main characters that seem to be so widely hated? That takes a certain kind of skill... haha.

yeah, exactly. there's a difference between writing 'style' and writing like you're in high school. :-P

Exactly! I find both Bella and Edward incredibly childish and annoying! If it wasn't for Jacob and Alice I'd probably have stopped reading by now.
