I often wonder if people still use that phrase anymore.. or did that die off in the last decade.

So I'd love to know.. What do you consider the difference between having sex and making love? What sort of differences can you point out between the two? Is there certain things your boyfriend/girlfriend does? I hope some guys get in on this too cause i know that guys and girls look at sexual intimacy differently a lot of the time. Thanks for your opinions!

There is a big difference. Kudos to people who only have sex with people they love.
I'm a curious person, lol.

To me there is a huge difference between making love and having sex. When you just have sex, it's still as good but it's not as meaningful, and that plays a BIG role, especially to me. I can't make my point without sounding innapropriate. Typically, when you make love to someone, you know them more and they care more about your needs, so they learn about your body and ways to make you happy.

As oppose to just having sex with someone, it's more exciting because you don't have feelings and it's more of the naughty feeling of it (plus the satisfaction) AS opposed to making love being a POWERFUL emotional feeling, that will entice things more!

Yes.

But to be more specific.. What sort of things do you notice between the two.

Like.. when you have sex, is it just rough and nasty.. and when you make love, do you hold their hands, have continual eye contact, do you kiss a lot.. etc.. what sort of things make the difference to you?

Exactly. When it's sex, it's more rough than sensual, and not a lot of kissing (At least not for me), just whatever it takes to get the job done.

Making love, it's more caressing, more passionate, (well i have passion for sex too) but it's just different when it's with someone you love... Plus, when you're making love, you take your time, as when you''re having sex, you just do it, stop, and then do it again if you want... no one stops to look at eachother, mushy stuff like that.

Makes sense?

lol.. im not really asking for a definition for my own knowledge.. haha
im just curious to know what others think about the two and if it's the same as my own or if there are other things out there that define the two.

I think there is a difference between sex, making love, and f***ing.

Sex is just that sex. Can be with the person u love or random person, usually in my opinion its just plain and simple. With sex in my opinion there is no real emotion behind it except satisfying a need.

F***ing is the same as sex but more rough and kinky doing it kinda like rapid animals.

Making love is sex with tons of passion and intimacy and can only be done when u truely love someone.

There's definitely a difference...making love there are strong emotions involved(at least for me lol) and then just sex is having a good time.

For me making love is really passionate and slower than sex....sex is about having a good time and enjoying it...for sex there doesn't have to be feelings for that person

To me, just sex is involved no emotions or anything, where as making love, emotions are involved between you and the person that you are making love to and it brings you closer together.

To me, every time my fiance and I are intimate - it is "making love". Any time I have had sex with someone in my past and not truly loved them, it was just that - sex. Regardless of how rough it is, or how kinky, etc - it's still making love, because ultimately, there's love behind the actions.

To me - making love is -having- sex with someone you share a deep connection with. Being intimate, romantic, loving ... slow - etc..

Just saying 'sex' is just that. Usually quicker, with no real emotion attached to the act itself (not saying you can't 'just have sex' with someone you love). More commonly used 'just to get your rocks off' lol

When my husband and I make love - we kiss a lot. It's usually very quiet, we stay really close so we can hold each other. That kind of thing.

Making love is just a euphemism, yo, and a rather old fashioned one at that. Used by people for who squirm at the bare reality of what sex actually is. The kind of people who won't look at their poops but like to pretend they really just went in the bathroom to read a book or powder their nose.

Making love is perhaps more specific than sex, if you take it literally to mean that love is involved. Sex may or may not involve love, so is a broader umbrella term. It doesn't necessarily mean rough or unloving - any more than saying 'furniture' instead of 'table' necessarily means 'chair'. It just means that the person has chosen not to specify the emotions involved in the act of intercourse, but is referring simply to the act itself.

So, depending on whether 'making love' is being used to specify or to euphemise, the difference between 'making love' and 'having sex' is either like the difference between 'table' and 'furniture', or it's like the difference between 'pass away' and 'die'.

oh.. and come to think of it, my parents when i was very young, used that term.. well my mom did.

in fact i think she still uses it.. and she also thinks if you have sex you're instantly dating too.. i guess that also supports my curiosity of others opinions about the terms. I just remembered that now, we were at a family restaurant and she was still kinda pissed about my sleeping with a guy without it being a "serious" relationship yet.. or to my knowledge... at all.

To me, sex is sex. Making love is another way to put it. Sex varies. Sometimes there is no attachment, others you're having it with the person you're deeply in love with... I don't think using the term "sex" is based on how hard or rough you do it.

I personally can't use the term "Making Love" because it just sounds so ridiculously corny. And honestly, this is just the way "I" see it... don't take offense, but either way whether you're "Making Love" or having sex, you're still having sex. That's just the way I see it :S I don't know...

My boyfriend and I make love and sometimes we just have sex. It's different, like when we just have sex, it's much more raw and impulsive. When we make love, it's much more delicate and thoughful. I think there's a difference just in how it's done but definately both are done in the spirit of love.

I think so. I mean, after we have intercourse of any kind, we cuddle and tell each other how much we love each other, so yeah, I totally think so.

Making love is what you do when you're in the romance stage.

Sex is what you do after you get married.

Fucked is what you get when you get a divorce.
