Knob I think is more of a swear word than anything. As in 'knob head'. I love that phrase. But yes it does mean dick, but I only know people who use it as an insult.

I never even noticed that when I was there. But probably because when I've been in New Zealand it's always been cold!

Oh, and Aussies say 'lollies' for what we call 'sweets' and what the Americans call 'candy'.

I didn't read the whole thread so I apologise if I'm repeating stuff here.

I've noticed a few differences between Australians and Americans.

Aussies words are first obviously.

Boot = Trunk (car)
Bonnet = Hood
Capsicum = Bell Peppers
Lollies = Candy
Soft Drink = Soda/Pop
Bum Bag = Fanny Pack
Fanny = Vagina (lol)

I just drew a blank. Can't think of any more.

A comedian over here called Michael McIntyre said that as long as you're posh, you can use any word to mean drunk. As in:

'Darling, I am completely bungalow'd!'

'Oh dear, I am quite panini'd!'

;D

I use pissed, wasted, wankered, fucked, trollied, mashed...

No, a bar is like a pub on the Simpsons, at least all the bars in Wisconsin are. None of our bars that I had been to have dance floors, only clubs do.

What you call "chips" we call "crisps" and we call "chips" what you call "fries" reserving the term "fries" for the skinny things you get from McDonalds and the like.

I read somewhere once that the English have over 50 slang terms for the word "drunk". To add to the growing list, there's also Trolleyed, Smashed, Inebriated, Arse-Holed, etc. And that ever glorious term for being hungover? "I'm rough as a dogs arse mate!"

It is also very common for an English person to say "hoover" instead of "vacuum".
