Comment Box: Maximum # of Characters?

So I figured out the hard way a couple days ago, that there appears to be a maximum number of characters you can post in a comment. However, Bloop doesn't bother to tell you such.

When trying to post a couple of comments on my own diary, I would click the 'Submit' button and it would indicate it was sending. However, the web browser showed nothing was happening. No matter how long I waited, whether I clicked the button 10 times, or whether I logged out, logged back in, and tried again, it would never post.

When I made the comment shorter, it posted immediately.

However, there is no message that comes up to tell you why it isn't/won't post. Is this something we can change? :)

You must have left one helluva long comment then, because I've left book sized comments and they posted just fine.

I'm with Lavender Breeze and carias. My comments are rarely short, but I've left comments that are longer than entries (and I write LONG entries) and they've never been cut off.

Do you all have bloop extra? cause i find that comments are allowed to be longer when you have extra, as apposed to not having it.

I do have Xtra actually. The odd thing was, I was able to post my comment on someone else's diary (as a replay to their comment). I sometimes like to post that comment on my diary as well, so others can see the ongoing conversation on a certain topic.

It posted fine on their diary, but just would not post on my own. That's specifically where the problem was. I tried logging off, back in, closing web browser, etc. Only thing I could do to get it to work was post the comment in portions. Then it worked fine and immediately.

oh hmm.. well if it posted fine once, i dont think character limits are the issue.. =/
maybe its a strain on the server to post the same giant block of text afterwards? Steve would probably be the best person to ask

This is a bug, I think. It happens to me ALL the time (I write REALLY big comments) and to a couple of my faves. I took a screenshot to show to someone (I didn't know who) but then I lost the internet. Here's what I see:

Does anyone know who we should contact about this?

Yeah, see I didn't even get anything like that. In my case, I hit submit and it shows text below the comment box saying it's updating. However it never goes anywhere past that. And the web browser states "Done" in the lower left corner, indicating it's not transmitting data back and forth. But, once I cut out a few paragraphs, it just simply posts immediately.

Hey! That's interesting. I'll look into it. Shouldn't be too difficult to solve...

Recently I have had comments completely disappear. I am thinking it has to do with this, as they have been longer comments. It will indicate that its saving the comment but then there is NOTHING. Its not in sent comments now shown on the persons entry. Its getting rather fustrating because there is no way of knowing how many letters you have left before it will happen

I have repaired this bug now. Read BloopNews for the official entry.

To clarify,

There is no limit on the length of a comment. The state of the Bloop software right now is transitional, some new functions don't work well with the old system. Thank you for bringing this bug to my attention though!
