So living in the south (dunno about those of you north of the mason dixon line) but we have cow grates in a few of the roads here. I for one refuse to walk across these things cause I'm scared to death that my foot is somehow going to be sucked through and I'll be stuck forever in one of these things. I know it's impossible cause they are at most 4 inches apart but still. It could happen right?

And for those of you who aren't American or Southern (bless your hearts if you're a damn Yankee) this is a cow grate:

What are some of your irrational fears?

I have to ask you. What EXACTLY are cow grates used for? I have a few things in mind but I'm unsure if I'm right.

They're placed over the road where water is so the cows can walk down the road to a new pasture.

Oh! I was way off! I was thinking they were there so they couldn't walk in a certain area!

Me too! I used to babysit for a family that lived on a dairy farm and still thought they prevented cows from leaving haha.

HOW DOES THAT WORK? COWS CAN'T WALK ON COWGRATES. OR IS IT TO HIDE THE WATER SO THAT THE COWS WILL GO ELSEWHERE?

Not sure where you are but in NE and TX they are used to keep a cow INSIDE a certian area and so they dont cross into other areas.
Neither my grandfather nor us - use them to help the cow get anywhere.

Yeah, they're used to keep cows from crossing the road. Dunno what I was thinking last night.

Also they are also used to keep the livestock from passing over it. Many cattle and or loose/free roaming livestock are afraid of it and will not pass over it. They can get their foot stuck if they slip. Kinda. they have big feet but I've seen a 70lb husky get stuck in a 7 inch wide slot of a wall. So things can happen. lol

We have cow grates in the UK to stop cows from leaving areas. I don't like them either, I once saw a kid get his foot stuck in one!

Oh geeze, on my grandparents farm they have a cow grate covering their creek but it was built by my great great great grandfather and the bars are 5ish inches apart.. when I was a kid my legs slipped and I strattled the bar and nearly broke my pelvic bone! So, yes, you SHOULD be scared of them! Lol.

I don't blame you! I have a weird fear of deep, dark water. For example, if I go to the lake, I won't swim out too far because I panic about how dark the water is. I also have a weird fear of pool drains and the filters. Don't ask me why. I actually have dreams where I have to swim everywhere and the water is dark and I get all nervous and scared. I still love being in the water and kayaking and swimming... I just get panicky sometimes. lol.

Oh man. I'm like that with deep water. Even in the pool. I'll go into the deep end, but I have to hold onto the edge and make my way all the way AROUND the side wall of the pool. My friends make fun of me so badly about it. Once this mean girl yanked me off the wall and you would have thought she was murdering me by how loudly I was screeching. Even the lifeguard thought something was up so he jumped in and came after me. =\ Needless to say I never go to that pool anymore.

I don't think that an irrational fear though, because you can't see what's in the water with you if it's dark. lol

Yes I do that too!!!!! I have this fear of alligators or crocs getting me in lakes I can't see through and rivers too. Also I have a fear of getting my leg caught on a tree in the water if it's murky. ugh. just thinking of it gives me shivers LOL I love to swim to and i love the water. But like you, if I can't see through it...i'm not hangin. lol

I'm afraid of water where I can't see the bottom. Like lakes. You can't tell how deep they are in some places =/

i have a ridiculous amount of irrational fears. the worst is probably that there is something in the dark waiting for me and it will devour/eviscerate/rape/kill me. so i usually run back into my room after turning a hallway light off at night. and if i'm the only one home at night i have to leave the tv on.

I'm convinced there is something in my closet and unless I sleep with the door closed it will attack and eat half of my legs in the middle of the night.

I do the same thing! The dark doesn't bother me- but it's the fact that something COULD be in the dark. I'm also deathly afraid of elevators. thunderstorms. and silence during the nighttime hours. stoves kind of creep me out too....well..anything that has the potential to start a fire creeps me out.

I used to cover myself COMPLETELY up to my ears, tuck the blanket under my legs, arms, everywhere because I was scared vampires were going to attack me while I was sleeping.

I am horribly afraid of mice. I can't stand the sight of one, or the sound of one. If I hear one squeak I will panic.

I wouldn't say I'm afraid of toasters, but I will not stand by one while it is toasting because everytime it pops up without notice, I jump out of my skin. So if I want something toasted, I have to leave the room for a while until it's done.

Same thing will biscuits in a can. Like when you have to twist them to get them to open and they make that popping noise I will scream.

I don't like being around balloons either for the same reason. I hate the way they sound when they pop unexpectedly.
