Yeah, I'd go to a Harry Potter one. But not Twilight. :P

At least it was for charity.

I wasn't aware it was for charity ;D
I thought it was just like, tickets to just go watch, lol.

I wish I had money to toss around like that.

$50? It's not exactly a HUGE amount of money, particularly not if it's for something fun that she wants to see. I mean, you could easily spend $50 on dinner and a bottle of wine. Would that count as tossing money about too?

Yeah I'd consider that tossing money about. =/
When you live on a budget and are barely able to afford food, pretty sure you dont spend fifty bucks on dinner and wine.

These days even a movie, a bag of popcorn and a drink can add up to close to $25. I presume you go to the movies occassionally, as you say you're a fan of Twilight. Perhaps you even saw Twilight more than once? So does that count as tossing money about?

My point is that it's possible to be on a budget, but still treat yourself occassionally. Perhaps you'll go to a movie every now and again... perhaps Tears of Rain wants to treat herself by going to watch a Twilight baseball game (which wouldn't personally be my thing either... I'd rather treat myself by tickets to a music concert or something). But I don't see how just because something interests her, but doesn't interest you it equates to tossing money about.

Normally, I'd rather go to a concert, too. And I probably wouldn't care so much about seeing a movie cast play baseball either... depending who was in said cast. Ok, sure... maybe my favorite celebrity wasn't at the game, but I'm one of those crazy obsessed people of the book/movie and I'm still a fan of a couple of the actors that were there. A chance to get an autograph or meeting someone you're a fan of just seemed cool.

Oh yeah, I totally understand that. I wouldn't go to a game like that because I personally found the Twilight books (and the movie) to be awful. But if it was a Harry Potter baseball game (of course it wouldn't be, because Harry Potter is British and baseball is an American game, but you get my point), I'd definitely try and get tickets!

Er, no I didn't see it in the theaters. I saw it on bootleg on the computer, then my friend burned me a copy of the actual movie. I'd consider spending that much on something tossing money about.

But like I've also said, to each their own.

Actually, poor example. I see you're not even legal to drink wine in America.

yeah, i wouldn't call donating to a charity and doing something fun at the same time "tossing around" money. maybe it hurt the bank account a little and the money could have gone to something like groceries... but the timing of it... bills were paid and we had enough food in the house. events like this don't happen all the time, so why not have fun once in a while? *shrug*

You shouldn't have to defend the way you spend your money to her. Like you say, your bills were paid. I don't think many people would consider spending $50 on ONE occassion on something you think you'll enjoy, to be throwing money about.

I don't really see it as defending how I spend my money... just explaining the situation. And since I bought two tickets -so my friend could come along- and the website I bought the tickets added fees, it was closer to $120. So it hurt the bank account and maybe it wasn't something I should have spent the money on... but sometimes you need something fun in your life, even if over-all you can't really afford it.

With the way this post has turned out... I'm assuming I'm the only one that went to the game heh. And if I wasn't... then anyone else that went hasn't seen this post. *sigh* I truly was curious to see if anyone else went. Oh well.

I didn't go even though I live only two hours from Portland. I would have totally gone if I had known about it. I didn't hear about it so I was in Bend that day. :( I went through Portland to get to Bend-if I had known about that game, I definitely would have taken a detour!
